Running Office 2011 on 10.9.1. I noticed lately (not sure when this started, but pretty sure it was when I updated from 10.8) that when Outlook is running in the background it does not check our exchange server for new mail. As soon as I switch to Outlook it queries the mail server and retrieves any new mail waiting for me.

I'd like to get Outlook to work the way it used to, where it checked for new mail in the background.

Can anyone steer me in the right direction?

Thanks!

I have an issue when saving a movie in Windows Movie maker.  I hear static or screeching in the background. Only in the saved version - saving to High Definition playback 1080.

I have to transfer the file to my Desktop running Windows 7  to save without the annoying background noise. Tried everything I could think of from uninstalling to re-installing to turning off the Laptop Microphone while it saves. Still the same problem.  Works perfect on my desktop running Windows 7.

I have no audio issues either when I play music or listen to audio online. Only when I save a project and then play that project from windows Movie Maker. No sound distortion when I am building the video. I've transferred a saved movie to my desktop and it plays static same as on the laptop so it is not a speaker issue. The movie actually "saves" with the static in the background.

Very frustrating.

If this helps here is what I found in the Detail under properties of two exact videos, one saved on my Laptop in Windows 8.1 and the other saved in Windows 7 using Windows Movie Maker 2012 version on both:

Static distorted saved version from windows 8.1:

Video:
Date rate 20147kbps
Total bitrate 20248kbps
Frame Rate 29 frames/seconds

Audio:
Bit rate 100kbps
Channels 2
Audio sample rate 48 kHz

Good Version from windows 7 no distortion in background:

Video:
Date rate 20785kbps
Total bitrate 20886kbps
Frame Rate 29 frames/seconds

Audio:
Bit rate 101kbps
Channels 2
Audio sample rate 48 kHz

I have videos that have audio on them and I want to be able to hear the audio on the video but also have music playing in the background. Is this possible to do?
I would like to change the background color of my mailbox from white to some other color, such as beige, to be easier on my eyes. Can I do this, and if so, how? Thank you.
How can I customise the background themes for my Hotmail emails. I can choose a theme from my Orange account, but cannot find a way to do it on Live.com. Thanks.
I can change font color & style, I can change highlight color & style, but I have an UGLY pink background color in this area of e-mails I am sending to others. I need a normal white or something other than this childish hot-pink. It's not very business like. I have looked in options, but I can't seem to find any info re: this area of my outgoing e-mails. I'm using hotmail.
Greetings,
How do you activate the developer tab in Outlook 2011?

Background:
In Word and Excel 2011, there is a ribbon customization "gear" at the far right of the ribbon, which is used to activate the developer tab.
This is very easy to find and use.
However, this icon does not appear in Outlook 2011.

Searching for this simple option in the typical resources does not yield useful information:
The menu option View/Customize Toolbars provides no options to change the tabs.
Preferences contains no options for Toolbars

In Outlook 2011 Help, the term "developer tab" does not provide any results. Other terms such as "ribbon preferences", which is the term used on Word 2011's "gear" also does not provide useful results.
If you search on "tabs", the "Customize Outlook window" result only offers the option to minimize the ribbon so that only the existing tabs appear.
When reviewing

In the KB, ( kb "outlook for mac" "developer tab" ) provides no relevant hits, nor do any number of other searches using terms such as "customize ribbon", etc.

Windows Live Mail launches with a black background and very dark gray text.  This is also the background and text of the left navigation panel.  The message windows are black on white, but the rest of WLM is dark gray on black.  I also cannot detect a scroll slider on the left panel and text outside the message panels gets overlaid/overwritten.

Is there a way to set an email background to black in Windows Live Mail?  Seems there ought to be since you can set the font to white.  I did this in Windows Mail for sending pictures since pics look better against a black background. If a black background cannot be set in Live Mail, what email software do you recommend for this?

Thanks.
