I've experienced this problem with several Outlook 2011 installs and haven't been able to find a solution short of a complete office uninstall and reinstall. Even then restoring use of the navigation pane doesn't happen.

Here's what's happening: When the navigation pane is active per View/Navigation Pane, the Outlook mail window locks and renders everything unclickable/unusable. No mail displays and the window appears locked/frozen. Menu items can be accessed. With the navigation pane unchecked in View/Navigation Pane, the mail window functions--of course without the navigation pane. This has happened with new installs after font import and on existing systems without any overt font install (or other install).

If I switch users, the navigation pane works, so it appears to be something related to the user account. In the case of the most recent occurrence, both tested user accounts have admin privileges.

I've run into this several times during system setup and now on an existing system. Anyone else experience this? And is there an easy solution?

Thanks.

I've been using Outlook 2011 for Mac on a Macbook Air for about 3 weeks and have four email addressees which initially appeared in the navigation pane, being expandable to show the Inbox, Drafts  etc for each account.  A few days ago they just disappeared!  I didn't consciously do anything to make that happen. I'm still receiving emails from all four accounts but I only have one composite inbox, drafts etc showing. How can I get the display of individual accounts back?

Thanks in advance
  • When I use File Explorer on Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 Preview I have the navigation pane set to 'show all folders' and 'automatically expand to folder'.
  • On Win8 I use SkyDrive for Desktop, and I place the SkyDrive folder in 'C:\Users\Karl\'; and the SkyDrive folder appears in the File Explorer navigation pane under the Karl Dixon folder.
  • Win 8.1preview has Skype for Desktop integrated into the OS.; and the SkyDrive folder appears at the top of the File Explorer navigation pane.
As I am currently back using Win8 due to an unrelated issue, I would like to know how to have Win8 show the SkyDrive folder at the top of the navigation pane whilst still using 'show all folders' and 'automatically expand to folder' settings.
Hello all,

I'm new to Outlook so thanks in advance for your patience with me.

Last week, I archived a mailbox and saved it as an .olm file. I then deleted the mailbox.

I needed to retrieve something from the archive today and imported it following the instructions. In the navigation pane, I see an Archived Mail folder, but it's empty. The file size of the archive is 23 kb and there were fewer than 150 e-mails, no big graphics or image attachments,

Can anyone help me recover these e-mails?

thanks,
Jayne

When importing emails, calendar and contacts via a .pst file, everything goes well. However, there are issues. The mail, events and contacts import, but they create a second entry in the navigation pane that cannot be merged with the default mail, calender, contacts entry. Do you know how to solve this?

Many thanks, Bart
I am trying to create a Custom View that has the Navigation Pane on the left, my weekly calendar in the middle and my task list on the right.  I used to be able to do this in Outlook 2033, but am having trouble trying to replicate this in Outlook 2011.  How can I do this?
Using MS Office for Mac 2011 via a volume license purchased by my employer.  Recently retired and no longer on the employer's Exchange server now.  After a hard drive crash, I replaced my traditional HD with a solid state drive and reloaded MS Office for Mac 2011 from the original install CD.  Everything works well except for Outlook; the initial navigation pane will notl open whenI start up Outlook, no matter what I do. The toolbar prompt for a new main viewing window doesn't produce anything either--no response from my machine.  Have downloaded and installed version MS Office 2011 Mac 14.2.4 and am using Mac OS X 10.6.8 on a 2007 iMac with 1gb memory total and a 200mhz Intel CPU.  Fortunately, I had saved all of my Outlook data when I suspected the original hard drive problem.  Used the export function and saved the data from the original hard drive to a flash drive.  Have imported them to the new SS drive, but no response from the my computer to view my calendar and contacts data.  Calendar reminders still work and pop up correctly on my screen.  I can enter a new appointment on a separate screen, but I'd like to be able to see my monthly calendar all on one screen.  What am I missing?  Help please.

Dear All,
I purchased MS office 2011 for MAC. In the OUTLOOK navigation pane there is no OUTBOX item. How I can make it visible on Navigation pane of OUTLOOK.
I recently installed Outlook 2011 for Mac on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3.  The navigation pane is missing the settings button and the folder list (but does show mail, calendar, contacts, tasks and notes).  See image at link below:

Is there either a registry setting to enable the settings button or is there a reset button/action for the navigation pane to restore the settings button?
