I have just purchased a new MacBook Air and just installed Microsoft Office 2011 Business.  I want to set up Outlook to use my 'gmail' email account and am trying to set this up.  When I try to open Outlook, for the first time, it asked me to select an identity.  I select Main Identity, not sure what this means, I am getting a message "Could not change to that identity. An unknown error has occurred in Outlook".  Also when I selected Quit it happened.  I have gone into 'preferences' 'mail, contacts & calendars and put in my gmail account, but still get error.  Eeek... What am I doing wrong?
Mac version of Outlook 2011 sets time increments in Calendar to 30 min blocks.
I want to reset this so that the Calendar shows 15 minute blocks.
The method for doing this with Windows version does not work on Mac.
Hi Guys, hope you can help me, i need to uninstall and re-install my office 2011 with a new product key details. i was wondering how to perform a back-up for my outlook data (signature, emails, etc) and restore it later once the office has been re-installed so it will be exactly the same? please help! thank you
When I export emails as olm files I send them (as prompted) to "Documents". When I try to open them nothing happens; I keep getting a note telling me they are from the internet asking if I want to open. when I tell it to open the saved message appears as an attachment to an email; when I try to open that the same thing happens. How do I export as an olm. file and then be able to open archived file (like you can do in Windows w/ PST files)? Thanks
We share a mailbox between 4 users and take work from a shared mailbox. In Entourage, when you moved an email from the shared mailbox to your inbox it would remove it from the shared. We just installed Outlook 2011 for Mac and it's causing problems of duplicate work because if we forget to go back and delete from shared after moving the email remains in the queue for another person to grab. Is there a setting to change this or has Microsoft screwed me again?
This is the third or fourth attempt to solve this problem. Each keystroke while typing an email in Outlook causes a latency of several seconds. Each time I hit a key I see the spinning colored wheel then the letters or whole words or several words a several seconds later on the screen. Something is wrong here. I have tried each fix suggested in this blog. Changing "rules" deleting the cache, removing duplicate fonts. Nothing has soled the problem. It seems to actually be getting worse. I do have emails residing in Outlook (in box and sent) that should be archived but don't know how to simply archive them. The PC version prompts you to archive the Mac version does not. Maybe this is the cause of the problem? Outlook is not functional with this problem. Anyone with suggestions? Please assist. No other Office for Mac 2011 is experiencing this problem, only Outlook. No other program on my laptop is suffering from this problem, only Outlook.
I cannot open outlook for mac 2011 anymore
the error message reads "Could not change to that identity. An unknown error has occurred in Outlook." I have tried to reinstall office, and have followed other advice online to identity problem.  previous to this outlook routinely wiped out my contact list, and regularly crashed.
I'm trying to better organize (and understand) my mail folders.  The current setup looks like this:

Inbox
 - Company_Name
 - On My Computer
Drafts
 - Company_Name
 - On My Computer
Sent Items
 - Company_Name
 - On My Computer
Deleted Items
 - Company_Name
 - On My Computer

Company_Name
 - Conversation History
 - quarantine
 - RSS Feeds
 - Sync Issues
 - Subscribed Public Folders

Junk E-mail

Smart Folders
 - Flagged Mail
 - High Priority Mail
 - Overdue Mail

This is for a corporate Exchange account.  I have a rule setup (called Auto Archive) that says "If date received greater than 60 days, move message to Inbox (On My Computer)"

Corporate policy is to remove mails from the Exchange server greater than X days old, so this archives them in my 'Inbox (On My Computer) folder.

A couple of issues/questions:

1)  Sent items > 60 days old *also* end up in the 'Inbox (On My Computer) folder.  How can I have Sent Items get archived in 'Sent Items (On My Computer)'?
2)  Given the folder hierarchy outlined above, if I wanted to create a 'Reference' folder for items I want to keep but require no response, where would I create it?
3)  Also, if I were to create a rule to for mails from distribution lists to go into a specific folder or rules for moving messages where I'm in the To: or CC: field, where should that folder get created?

I'm confused as to whether they should reside under the Inbox somewhere or within the second grouping of folders (Conversation History, quarantine, etc.).

Thanks!

I am running Outlook 2011 and meetings I accept are showing up on my calendar as if I had not acted on them yet.  I am receiving the error in the title for about 10 events.  The suggestion is delete the event and create a new one.  Some of these are events I have received from others so I don't know how that is possible.  Help!
After being on PC for years, I got a Mac, I got Office for Mac so I can transfer my pst file to my new Mac, I have been having problems with the task system in more ways than one. For example, when I snooze a task or market it complete, it may comes back about 10 minutes later. Also the task that initially showed up on my list have been marked either dismissed or completed some time ago on my PC, but on the Mac, they all show up under reminders. Lastly, I am not to sure where the master task list is like it appears on the PC version. Any help is greatly appreciated.
