the search function no longer works.  fixes?
I wrote last week with a question about the inability to search for some contacts in my mail box - the mail is there but the search function simple cannot find the names.  I also said that a volume of my e-mail had disappeared and I was entirely unfamiliar with what is happening with the POP option.  Can someone please help unscramble this?
I am unable to search for e-mails that are more than a few days old in my Outlook.com.  This is on a PC NOT a mobile device where there are settings that allow you to store only x number of messages in your inbox.  In fact, when I try to search messages that are a few weeks old, I cannot find them.  Yet, I have messages dating back to 2000, so they are there, but I cannot use the search function. Please advise how to restore default search functions to find e-mails by a name - not just from and by as keywords.  Outlook.com is really not easy to navigate.
Hi, I am using a hotmail account (converted to outlook.com account) and have not been able to use the search function for over a year. Every search results in the message that no emails were found with those search parameters, even if I am looking directly at a message in my inbox that I searched for. The advanced search has similar results. I have tried multiple browsers, multiple devices, updating my browsers and plugins, etc but to no avail. Upon searching the forums here I discovered multiple threads regarding this, but the only solution I could find was a "temporary" one to download Outlook and use it on my computer rather than online, a solution that I am not interested in as I don't want it taking up space and really need the functionality of having it accessible from any device. I did see a microsoft rep talk about needing to re-index my account, but there are no instructions regarding how to do that. I am really hoping to get this issue resolved asap, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
My Hotmail SEARCH function is STILL not working.  It has been OVER a year.  I have made REPEATED requests for help and keep getting the identical form letters with no solutions.  Several users have suggested that after Hotmail engineers "re-index" their accounts, the SEARCH function began working again.  I have repeatedly asked if this has been attempted on MY account and have specifically asked for confirmation at to exactly what has been done and/or what can be done.  I have yet to receive an actual "personalized" response and am beyond frustrated.  This problem has cost me quite a bit of time and money due to not being able to find information when I need it.  This is most definitely a problem on Hotmail's end.  I have complied with the numerous requests for added information, Fiddler Traces, Screen Shots, etc... and have spent a lot of time trying to solve this problem on my end.  IT STILL DOES NOT WORK!!  PLEASE HELP!!!!
Hi, service team,

Yesterday, it looks like the search function cannot work properly.
I cannot use the search function to find anything in my email.
Today, I would like to ask Outlook.com service team to fix this problem for me, please T_T.
I have to use this search function.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Best Regards,
Sappa
Please help me -- I have lost the ability to put a name/email address/subject in the search box of my Outlook and have it search for that old email or string.  I can't find any similar questions about this issue in any of the community listings.  This problem is the same whether I use Internet Explorer or Chrome.  I believe this is Windows XP.  Can anyone please help me?  So many thanks!!
I have been unable to use the search function with my outlook.com account for several weeks.

This happens on multiple computers and with various browsers.

I have cleared the cache, updated browser version, and reset settings.

I get various error messages.

The most frequent is this:

There was a problem with the Outlook service (a temporary network connectivity issue that has nothing to do with your computer). Please try again.  If you keep seeing this message, go to Service status to check if there's a problem with Outlook.
Hi there,

I am trying to open some emails which contain an invoice in a PDF attachment.  I know I have never deleted these emails so they should be there somewhere.

I know the required emails are from December 2010 and I have used the 'advanced search' function: in the 'from' field I have input the users' email address. In the 'Keywords' field I have input 'PDF' and then for the dates I have input 01/12/2010 - 01/01/2011 and clicked the 'has attachment' option.

This brings up the 3 emails I require, and the dates are listed as 13/12/2010, 16/12/2010 & 17/12/2010.

However, for some reason, when I click on ANY of these 3 emails, Hotmail/outlook has for some reason attempted to 'group' the messages into a handy 'conversation' view which has grouped a great deal of irrelevant emails between me and the company in question... but not the required emails, despite the fact that the advanced search has located them...

It doesn't matter which one of the 3 emails which the search function found that I click on - when opened up, the top email in them all is from Thursday 14th July 2011... and the final email in the 'grouped conversation' is from 26th April 2011.

It is as if there is a record and template of the emails I require, but it has grouped every single email between me and the company and then just deleted anything older than 26th April 2011, but left a trace of the email once existing in my inbox - which is no good at all.

- Has anyone got any advice or a solution to this situation?

- Is there a certain setting I can change, or a browser, or older version of a browser which I can use which will let me see every email I search for individually instead of automatically grouping them in this way and not letting me see the emails I actually need to see?

OR is there somewhere the attachments are stored on your server which I can have forwarded to me?

Many thanks in advance for any help on this urgent matter.

Regards,

Steve
Hi there. The search email function on my hotmail account a few weeks ago. I have tried using Internet explorer and chrome browsers on different computers - office, home desktop and laptop. It also doesn't work in chrome and safari on my iPhone and iPad either.

When I log in to another hotmail.com account on the same browsers, the search function works

I get this error on my iPhone:
Sorry, it looks like there was an error. Please try again.
Ok

This error on desktop:

There was a problem with the Outlook service (a temporary network connectivity issue that has nothing to do with your computer). Please try again.  If you keep seeing this message, go to Service status to check if there's a problem with Outlook.

Is there something wrong with the index on my account? I need to get this search function back urgently.
Thanks
