I use Apple Mail but since I have Office 2011 installed on my Macbook I thought I'd take a look at Outlook.

I shutdown Apple Mail and started Outlook (for the first time), I entered the required info to access my IMAP email account (username, server settings, etc.). All seemed to go well and I could see Outlook retrieving my email.

After some time I noticed it said "All Folders Up To Date". I checked the Sent Items folder and saw about 11,000 messages (normal & expected), but when I clicked on Inbox I noticed it only had 750 messages (about 10% of what I expected). There were messages from the last month, then 5 or 6 messages from 2013, none from 2012 and 2011,, and 2 messages from 2010.

Obviously, this was not right, so I right clicked the Inbox folder & selected Synchronize Now but it would just say it was already up to date. Fishing around in the settings did not reveal any setup issues.

So, I thought that was it for Outlook, and when back to Apple Mail....

After opening my Inbox in Apple Mail I now also see 750 messages! There are thousands (literally) of messages gone in a span of maybe 10 minutes. I checked all other email folders (including Trash) but found nothing.

After 90 minutes on the phone with my ISP I could not get back the contents of my Inbox (also verified by going to HostMonster's webmail and see the same 750 Inbox messages).

Does anyone have an idea of what might have happened?

I am absolutely devastated right now. Gutted, and still in some shock (I am a one person home business that lives & breathes through email).

Any help offered would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of wish list ideas for Outlook for Mac 2014:

  • I'd like to be able to choose the reply format when I reply. Mozilla Thunderbird does this through shift-click, e.g., shift-click Reply to reply in plain text rather than HTML. (Switching between formats once Reply has been clicked is less accurate or useful, because the damage has already been done.)
  • I'd like to be able to add or remove quote levels from plain text emails. (Apple Mail allows this.)
  • I'd like to be able to reflow text when writing a plain text email --- so that it's not done auto-magically when I send the email. Apple Mail automatically flows text, and sometimes (often?) the formatting is messed up as a result. Thunderbird seems to leave plain text alone once you hit send.
  • Better support for tables in HTML email would be great. Thunderbird has excellent support for tables.

Thanks,

-Adam

I have a huge collection of emails that are very important to me saved in outlook 2011 and are no more available on the server, they got deleted some how. I need to transfer all these emails from outlook 2011 to apple mail. I used the import/export wizard of outlook 2011 and it created a folder that contains all my emails and sub-folders in .olm format. This folder cannot be imported into apple mail as there is no option to import from outlook 2011 or import .olm files. So I need to convert this folder into .mbox format so that it can be imported to apple mail. So any ideas or solutions on hoe to convert .olm files to .mbox???
Hi there,

I have setup a personal domain in Outlook.

I have managed to add it on the iPhone using the "Outlook.com" preset. I can sync Mail, Contacts, Calendars...

How do I add this in Outlook for Mac 2011 or Apple Mail. I'm running 10.9.

I can't find the server settings anywhere.

Thanks,
Tommy
I'm having a problem with Outlook 2011 (updated) constantly wanting to download old emails (~800!).  I see this problem posted by other users, all of which appear to be POP accounts.  My problem differs because it is a Gmail account configured for IMAP with Outlook.

Because I've never had this problem befor upgrading to OXS 10.9, I see elsewhere that this may be a problem with this particular OSX because Apple made changes.  However, those references are generally about Apple Mail, not a 3rd party software like Outlook.  I also see that a fix is in the works for Apple Mail.  Because I see the same happening with Outlook, does this imply the problem is with how OSX handles email accounts, and that I'll have to wait for Apple? ... or can I expect a remedy from Microsoft?? (... whether it be a fix found here in this forum, or an software patch later)

EDIT:  My apologies ... the account I'm having problems with is my only POP account, which as it so happens cannot be configured as IMAP.  I'll need look into how its configured for deleting past emails ...

TA  (thanks anyway) :)
apple mail screwed up my hotmail inbox and now a new POP folder keeps prompting me for action even though i have moved my email back to my inbox and deleted the POP folder. I changed the setting in apple mail to leave the email on the server but hotmail still thinks mail is trying to delete it. When i click change settings ,it just takes me to microsoft's useless "report a problem" and "submit a question" ****.
On my computer, I use Apple Mail and connect via IMAP and my iPhone/iPad is connected via EAS. In Apple Mail, incoming emails and other syncing actions are working, however, when I delete an email in Apple Mail, the email does not delete from the server or my other devices (iPhone, iPad). If I delete the email from my iPhone/iPad, Apple Mail reflects the changes.

I occasionally get and error message, "The IMAP command “UID COPY” (to Deleted) failed for the mailbox “INBOX” with server error: Error 9. Server error. Please try again later.." when trying to delete emails from my Inbox.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.
I receive the following error using Apple Mail v4.6 on OSX v10.6.8:

Cannot send message using the server...
Sending the message content to the server failed.

I am using Outlook.com servers with a Custom Domain email address. I have no problem receiving emails, but I cannot send emails. The outgoing server settings are:

Server Name: smtp-mail.outlook.com
Use default ports (25,465,587) - I have tried using Custom Ports 25 and 587 but that didn't help.
Use SSL
Authentication: Password
*** email address ***
*** password ***

Please let me know how to fix this. Thanks.

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that the Account Type is IMAP
i recently set up my hotmail on the apple mail program for my macbook air.  i didn't realize that it defaulted to POP email set up.  anyways, all the emails were downloaded onto the macbook air and deleted from the server.  this causes a problem since i access my emails from multiple computers and mobile devices.  so my question is, how do i get the emails that are sitting on my macbook air transferred to the hotmail server?
I upgraded my mac book pro from leopard to lion a few days back. I had already installed Ms office 2011 for mac and needed to transfer all my mails from apple mail to outlook 2011. But the import option in outlook 2011 will not import the mails at all. After performing all the steps all I get imported is the blank mail folders.

I have also gone for other alternative methods explained online but none works. Is it the quantity of my mails that is stopping me to do that or my mails are corrupted?? Please help if there is any other way to transfer mails from apple mail to outlook 2011.
