I use Outlook 2011 for Mac. My Junk e-mail folder appears as a subfolder of another (completely unrelated) folder. I cannot move it out of that folder, I tried changing permissions, but with no success. Any suggestion?

I am using Outlook for Mac 14.3.8 (latest version) under Mac OS 10.8.5 (latest version) on a Macbook Pro Retina, Mid 2012.
I have been using Office for Mac on my Macbook happily for many months, but since about one month I have a serious problem.
Outlook will crash at random times, meaning I see the "spinning wheel", when clicking on the Outlook window. This alone would not be a tragedy, but I am unable to "Force quit" Outlook. Not only this, but soon after this all other active processes freeze
as well! The only way to resolve the situation is to restart the macbook by holding down the power button.
I have contacted the Apple support, who suggested to clean the caches and to verify/repair the SSD hard disk. This has been done, but it has not solved the problem. And interestingly, the freezing occurs only when Outlook is running, so I would be tempted
to exclude a hardware or OS defect.
Unfortunately I can not say what has triggered this issue (e.g. update of Outlook or update of Mac OS).
I would be thankful for hints on how to investigate this problem in more detail. I have checked the Console, but found no entries that could be related to this.

One of our managers was put on a Microsoft Exchange account when she went on Maternity Leave, and now that she is back is having major issues with speed. It's 100% her Outlook causing the issue. I've updated her Office to 14.3.8 and her brand new Macbook
pro is at 10.8+. She is the only one of 20+ staff on Exchange. I've spent several days doing everything I can to optimize it, and nothing seems to work. She is set to only download headers and no folders are over 2000 email anymore. The wheel is spinning over
50% of the time and the scroll doesn't work. It seems to be constantly syncing or sync pending. At this point, the only thing that will make anyone happy is to have her moved back to an IMAP account.
I can't find anything on this. I realize Exchange is much different from POP and IMAP so you can't just switch, but so what do I need to do? I don't know enough about Exchange to know how better to ask this question, so any background information helps.
Any additional resources on Exchange might help too. I've read for hours on what could be affecting the speed, and at this point we just want her off Exchange.

I have an old optonline account that is no longer in use but I had the mail downloaded onto my outlook, and I had a gmail account set up. I had closed Outlook to install Sugarsync, and upon reopening Outlook, everything is gone. There are NO accounts set up. For my Gmail account it's no big deal to retrieve, but for my optonline, I dont really have it anywhere else. (Perhaps on my old computer which doesn't work). Plus, I had everything in folders, lost my contacts, etc.
I also noticed in the trash bin there are some pics and documents that I recently opened in Outlook. I did a search on my computer, and it has lost all the data - it is not pulling anything up.
For now I'm using gmail online, but I'm wondering what you think happened. How can I retrieve it?

When I want to attach a document on my desktop, Desktop doesn't come up in the list of options. The options I get Applications, Computer, etc. "Desktop" did show up until the other day. How do I get Desktop back?
Hello. I am using a new iMac and Mac Book Pro and Outlook is freezing once opened and going to do the first send and receive. This happens on both machines (showing the spinning beach ball, also known as the spinning rainbow pinwheel of death). I have
POP3 accounts on both, multiple accounts (all work related) on the iMac and just 2 (work related also) on the Mac Book Pro. I have never had this sort of issue before even when using entourage before upgrading. All software is up to date for both mac and office
on both machines. I have tried rebuilding the database and other threads i have found but nothing has worked. Firewall is off also. I'm not using Exchange either. Running out of ideas and need to get this sorted ASAP.

I had been cleaning up emails on Outlook 2011 for Mac as I had 5 years worth stored (20K+), primarily deleting old emails and moving some to draft folders. Before I did any of this I exported my outlook files (emails, contacts, calendar) as an .olm file
to an external hard drive. I do this monthly anyways so I have a past back-up also. I launched Oultook 2 days ago and all the folders were empty and my account settings disappeared. I rebuilt the identity (holding option button down while selecting the Outlook
icon) and tried a few of the backed up identities and it still came up empty everytime (no emails in any folders) and no account settings. I reinstalled MS Office and updated the software and then rebuilt the identity from an external hard drive. Still nothing.

since the latest Microsoft update, mail does not send immediately, except if i send to myself.
the error message returned is:
but the DNS information is correct. if i do a "send/receive" or open the email from the out box and "send" again, the message sends.
the timing of the appearance of the problem coincides with the installation of the latest Office updates.
any ideas?

Outlook cannot find the server. Verify the server information is entered correctly in the Account Settings, and that your DNS settings in the Network pane of System Preferences are correct.
Error code -3170
