Microsoft has made it virtually impossible to navigate my email account to do attempting to change my security information after I forgot my password.  Once I was able to verify my account, I reset my password and was updating my security info as it was no longer valid.  I attempted to change my birthday and the system decided I was born in 2013 and locked me out of my account until "a parent" logged in, paid $.50 and verified me, a 31 year old man, was able to use my account which I have had for at least 15 years.  Now I am not able to change my birthdate and unable to change my security info, i.e. extra email address and phone number.  Sooooooo........If I do not have permission to change my info, how am I supposed to reset my account?  I have found Microsoft to be extremely unhelpful.  Anyone else have any suggestions?

Hi Leah_V, I don't understand why you locked my original thread, I was about to reply this morning to the advice given by LindaSView, but by then, you had also responded and locked me out!

Have I offended someone?  If so it wasn't intentional.

This morning I followed LindaSView's advice and checked the headers.

I do usually do this with suspect emails, but really have no idea what it is that I'm supposed to be looking for!

Linda's advice pointed me to the things I needed to check!

On the email advising me that my security info was due to be removed, I found the following :-

Line one (it's a long one!) contains amongst the gobbledygook was "(sender IP is 65.54.190.32)", and lines 4 and 5 show:- X-AUTH-Result: PASS
X-SID-Result: PASS.

The other 17 offering me a security code have a variety of senders IP's, which I've not yet checked out, but lines 4 and 5 in the ones I've looked at show the same info as mentioned above.

It would seem that the emails are in fact from MS.

This leads me to query just why these emails offering security codes were being sent to the subject email address when I had clearly specified a different address for such communication. To wit: the "Security info" which MS threatened was "Sheduled to be removed" and which I discovered was infact listed.

Having just looked at this page and satisfied myself that all the detail there was in fact correct (even if it was being ignored by MS!) I then found that there was no obvious way to "Save and Exit" from the page, or indeed just to confirm that no change was required....so I just closed the tab, not the best way to exit!

That done.....bearing in mind I had in fact done nothing, just had a quick "Look-see", behold, I received an email to my designated address thanking me for verifying my hotmail address and offering me yet another security code...not that I had requested one!

Can someone explain to me the logic of this please, as it totally escapes me!

Sorry to ramble on I'm just gratful that I seem to have found someone who knows the system!

I need to edit security information (remove a phone number) that I previously entered so i could access my account if i forgot my password.
Hi,

Any help is appreciated.

I want to update my security info with a current email address. When I say the old email address is not valid it asks "Since you don't have access to your current security info..." and offers a possibility to verify with a mobile phone number or an alternate email address. I'm not giving microsoft my mobile number and when I use the alternate email address (to a gmail account) it doesn't send the necessary code!

Can this issue please be solved. Thanks.
