I have an active Hotmail account, that I have had for almost 20 years, and which I can still access on my iphone.
However when I recently tried to sign in, it said I had either entered an incorrect password or didn't have a microsoft account.
I understand that Hotmail's transiting to Microsoft, and I assumed that I needed to sign up to a new microsoft account in order to access my hotmail account.
However I now appear to have a a completely new hotmail account - with the same address as my old one.
And I can't access any of my old emails (other than via my phone).
This is seriously the worst why to transition customers to a new service. I have now spent several hours trawling through online help blogs which don't seem to address the question that I'm sure millions of hotmail customers are asking.
The explanation to customers about what is happening and what they need to do to continue to access their service is terrible.
Please explain how I can access my inbox to my hotmail account.

I can login to my Microsoft account on my main computer but I can not login to Hotmail. My hotmail is accessable from all other hardware (blackberry, other computers, etc. Have run 2 different virus software and computer is clean. Any suggestions.
i maintain 2 different hotmail accounts but i seldom use the other one so i forgot my password. when i tried to reset the password, i cant do it anymore because it says that my microsoft account does not exist. pls help me.

I know that this is very frustrating since there is no other way for a customer to prove his ownership of a particular account but to go through the Microsoft account recovery process. Kindly follow the instructions the previous agents have provided.
Please try to provide as much accurate information as you can about your account every time you answer the questionnaire to make sure you pass. Our system may escalate your issue after a few attempts.

I renamed my old Hotmail account to a new one with Outlook.com. Is it possible to change it back to my previous Hotmail address?
I accidentally changed the email for my Microsoft Live account (when trying to update the alternate) and now can only access my old hotmail account through the new one (which does not allow me to send emails from this account using Outlook). It won't let
me change the Microsoft account back to a hotmail account. Is there any way to do this or to get direct access to my original hotmail account? If I try to log into the old account, it says "that Microsoft account doesn't exist".
