Over the years I've been very happy to synchronize my (previously Entourage or) Outlook experience on 4 different computers by copying my Documents > Microsoft User Data > Office 2011 Identities folders from one computer to another via use of an external HD prior to a work session on a given computer. All 4 are using the same Mac OS (OS X 10.6.8).

I have a friend who just purchased a new iMac that is running Mavericks (OS X 10.9). She wants to have all of her old Office 2011 files available on the new computer. Can she just copy the Office 2011 Identities folders from her old iMac (running OS X 10.6.8) on to an external HD and use this to overwrite the Office 2011 Identities folder on the new iMac (running OS X 10.9)? Basically doing the same action that I've done in the past, but between different versions of the Mac OS.
Hi All - I realised yesterday that I was running out of space on my hard drive. When checking what was using the space, it was the outlook main identity folder. It was 170GB big! I have recreated a main identity with the same content (from exchange server + imported 3 pst files).  It is back to a more normal 18GB size. This is the exact same content.

The only thing I can think of is that I import very often pst files then I delete them later on. To me it looks like the deleted content might never actually get removed from the Main Identity folders.

Anyone else experience this? Is there a way to clean the Main Identity of deleted content?

Thanks
Hi,

Is there a way to limit, by date, email numbers or size, the amount of mail Outlook 2011 for Mac syncs with Exchange?

I have a user with a very big mailbox (19 Gig, reducing the size is problematic hence this query and please no comments about how we need to get his mailbox size down, its a work in progress) and his Outlook does not sync properly.  We think it may be due to the size of his mailbox and would like to test it to prove the point to the user that he needs to reduce his mailbox size.

Thanks in advance for your help

After an unknown problem occurred I was asked to run a database rebuilt.  This was done, Outlook opened, then wanted another database rebuild.  this happened a few times.  Now Outlook will not open at all.  I restarted my iMac in Safe Mode, tried opening Outlook (latest version with latest Mavericks), it indicated it was setting up the identity, and then closed.  No error messages.  I have tried everything to get Outlook to open.  I found a “Hail Mary” solution that was posted by an MVP, it was what I followed, without success.

The database indicates it has 1.44 GB; however, I suspect that is a false reading as I copied everything over to an external hard drive, much more than that is present in the various folders.

What options do I have?  Do I need to re-install?  If so, how do I go about doing that?  I really need to get Outlook functioning again.

Thanks for your assistance.

Hi,

I use Outlook for about a dozen email accounts. A few months ago, I switched 4 of the accounts to IMAP in Outlook and on my iPhone. This worked great.

About a week ago, I switched another POP account to use IMAP on my Mac and iPhone. In Outlook, I created a new IMAP account then deleted the associated POP account. I did the same on my iPhone. I set the IMAP account exactly as my other IMAP accounts (same server, ports, etc., different email address and password). It worked fine including the Sent folder. I have the Sent folder configured to use the Sent folder on the server for Outlook and my iPhone.

Today I discovered that email sent from Outlook for the this IMAP account doesn't store sent messages in the Sent folder. Sent mail for this account sent from my iPhone or WebMail is stored correctly in the Sent folder, and that sent email is downloaded to the Sent folder in Outlook. Sent mail for this account when using Outlook is never stored in it's Sent folder. I have "Grouped similar folders...' set in Preferences-General. I tried unchecked it and rechecked it, and nothing changed.

Does anyone know how I can get my Sent folder working for my IMAP account? Should I try deleting the IMAP account in Outlook, then recreate it? I'm  using Outlook 14.3.9.

Thanks,
Chuck
Sometimes….but not always I add an appointment to Outlook on my Mac and when I save it there's no sign of it on the calendar on my Mac…..but I can see it on my iPhone/Ipad.    This may also be linked to another problem where I can get 2 or 3 reminders pop up at same time for the same calendar entry.   Any thoughts anyone?
So I have 2 macs in my office, and we recently switched to Outlook. Once our account information was entered, one of them could send and receive email right away, while the other hasn't been able to send an email yet, but can receive email.  When I log into the Mac Mail client, I have no problem sending or receiving mail from the account, but I cannot send with Outlook.

I think I have read every support forum and tied everything possible.

My email is through godaddy. I have tried the default ports: 25, 80, 3535, 465. None have worked. I have tried both authentication settings of "Use Incoming Sever Info" "User Name and Password" and "none"

The most common error messages I get are the following:
Error code -3259: An operation on the server timed out. The server may be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic.
Error code -17900: Authentication Failed for **@**********.com
The problem is that I know the user name and password are correct, but it continually tells me that it is wrong.

My current email settings are set to the following
Incoming:  imap.secureserver.net (port 993)
     (use SSL to connect)
Outgoing: smtpout.secureserver.net (port 465)
     (override default port)
     (use SSL to connect)

I'm pretty much at my wits end. I spoke with customer support at godaddy, and they told me to go to microsoft or apple. Help!

I run Mac Outlook 2011 on Mac OSX 10.9.1 (but also on 10.8.5 has this same issue).  How do I select multiple calendar appointments to copy/paste multiple appointments into the same calendar but on a different day/week?  No combination of Shift/Fn/Ctrl/Cmd/Opt + click will not allow me to highlight multiple appointments.  I know I can copy/paste a single appointment using Alt + Drag-n-drop to a new time, but I need to do this for multiple appointments to fill out my whole week.

This is so simple to do on a Windows Outlook install :(

Bonjour,

I would like to know how to properly archive my emails from Outlook on my external hard drive. I am currently using Office for Mac 2011.

Thanks,

F
Junk E-Mail Protection, under tools, is 'grayed out'. We are using Microsoft Online/Exchange and there is no rule to accomplish on the Macintosh version what I can do on a Window's based Outlook (e.g. 2010 Outlook).

When I BLOCK a piece of e-mail I also have to SEND IT TO JUNK, a two-step operation which is extra work. When i go to jUNK in Windows Outlook I have numerous options plus the ability to modify my Junk E-mail options.

If these features not available, so be it, but want to make sure there is no way to invoke Junk E-mail protection on Mac Outlook 2011.
