Original Title: windows live messenger

When I start "Windows Mail" or Windows live messenger" this error comes

"The program can't start because d3dx10_41.dll is missing  from your computer.

Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"

What should I do next to correct this?

Thank you, Smittychat. I followed the link and was "told" that Messenger is no longer available or supported; however, it does come with Windows Live Mail via Windows Live Essentials. Now it rears its ugly head every time the computer's booted.

This is not good. BTW, I said the same when asked why I didn't find the link helpful. :)

I though windows live messenger was dead but when i updated windows essentials came up. I'm not sure so don't be annoyed if I'm incorrect but i though it became Skype or something like that. I wonder why i got it

Hi,

Since I changed my live.com password in outlook.com, i cannot access emails in windows live, outlook express and outlook 2007.

In Windows Mail and Messenger it keeps on asking for the password.

In outlook 2007 it doesn't connect to the server (neither through outlook connector nor pop/smtp).

I can access the account from the internet in all browsers, but not in email  programs.

I changed the password in my Microsoft account, as it was the only way I could find how to change it for Windows Live.

I changed it in outlook.com again. It still doesn't help.

I also discovered I cannot sign in to Windows Live Messenger as well. Though my SkyDrive (One Drive) connects fine.

Any advice what to do?

I will do my best to simplify this problem:

First - I have a desktop which is running Windows 8.1. I run it in desk top mode.

I have Skype installed and have had a Skype account for several years. I also have Windows Essentials installed. The most important part of WE, for me, is Windows Live Mail. It is a very useful mail program.

Now - the problem: Every day when I boot up my PC, I get a message from Windows Live Messenger stating that a new version is available. This message seemingly came from no-where starting about a month ago. I'm given two choices, I can upgrade or not upgrade. If I say okay to the upgrade the program returns a message which says there is already a newer version installed. I assume that this is referring to "Skype". Since it seems to be discouraging me, I select "Cancel".

Of course the next time I reboot the same upgrade message is present. It is quite annoying. I really just want the annoying message to go away, but I'm not sure what is driving it. The thing that I don't want to do is to disrupt my Windows Live Mail program with all my e-mails and contacts.

Suggestions???

Why is Windows Live Messenger still bundled with the Windows Essentials 2012 Build 16.4.3522.0110 installer even though Windows Live Messenger was retired in April 2013?  SkyDrive was renamed to OneDrive in the new installer?  Also why does Windows Essentials 2012 still offer to install Messenger and OneDrive even when running Windows 8.1?
