I am using Windows Live Mail 2010 on a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit machine.

1) Is there any benefit in upgrading to Windows Essentials 2012 Mail?

2) Is there any fundamental difference between the two? Do I gain anything?

3) If I install WE2012 Mail, can I safely and reliably import all of my existing mail and contacts?

4) Is the email storage location and format in WE2012 Mail the same as in WLM 2010?

5) Are contacts stored in the same location on the hard drive?

6) It has always been annoying that in WLM when I open a collapsed folder tree, the focus jumps back to the top of the list rather than staying on the folder I just expanded. This generally happens the first time you expand a collapsed folder; but it can be totally random. When you collapse and expand the folder again, the focus does not change. Does WE2012 Mail behave the same way?

Would I be able to capture videos with my laptop (ASUS G73J w. Windows 7 after I download Movie Maker (Windows Essentials 2012)?

How do I create a Panorama stitching 2 or 3 photos together in Windows Essentials 2012 Photo Gallery, using Windows 8.  It was quite simple in Windows Live Photo Gallery using Windows 7 , but I don't see where to create a Panorama in Photo Gallery 2012.

Thanks for any help.

I recently purchased a Dell Laptop with Windows 8.1.  After using Easy Transfer to move files from current laptop to new one, everything transfers and works properly EXCEPT Windows Live Mail (Download through Windows Essentials 2012).

In fact, Live Mail worked before I did the Easy Transfer.  Now, I can't get 2011 or 2012 to work after multiple downloads (uninstalling current version each time), using the Repair function and even double checking the graphics driver per one suggestion.

I'm using Roadrunner which has a POP server so I can't use the email that came with 8.1, hence the need for Live Mail.  I've downloaded Thunderbird and that works just fine, just a pain to transfer all the emails.

This should be seamless but nothing is posted that really helps.

Anyone have a SIMPLE solution that does not take a professional to make it work?

A few days ago, I finally updated windows live essentials 2011 to the windows essentials 2012. Since then, I have been unable to print any images from either photo gallery or from the windows photo viewer. Documents print without a problem.

Things I have tried

1. deleting the 2012 and going back to 2011

2. made sure that everything is running on the latest versions/drivers.. this includes my printer

3. ran the sfc and nothing was found there

4. stopped and restarted the spooler successfully

5. printer scan shows that everything is installed correctly and should print (it prints everything but images from the 2 programs)

6. made sure that none of the parameters on the gallery and viewer had  been changed and none of the parameters on the printer have been changed.

Are there any other things to try?

Windows 7 doesn't support time allowance, only time curfew. So I just installed Windows Essentials 2012 because it includes Family Safety which was supposed to allow me to set time allowance, but apparently that feature doesn't work on Windows 7.

So my question is, does any of the previous versions of Windows Family Safety support time allowance on a computer running Windows 7?

Thanks.

(P.S.  I posted this under Windows Live Mail because Windows Family Safety isn't even listed under the Windows Essentials products)

Hi,

I recently ran the update for Windows Essentials 2012 and ever since I'm unable to send emails to addresses of the same hosted domain.

Originally I couldn't send emails at all so I checked my email address properties with my hosting company and they have confirmed they are correct, but because I was receiving a timeout socket error I spoke with my ISP who changed the smtp server to their smtp server and unchecked requires server authentication.

This allowed me to send emails outside my hosted domain but I'm still unable to send to an email address of the same domain.

I never had any problems at all until I ran the Windows Essentails 2012 update. I've tried removing and adding the email account several times and uninstalling and reinstalling Windows Live Mail, I've even spoken with Microsoft who sent me here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Julian.

I have:

• Virus scanned. It is clean. I have Bullguard (lastest)

• I uninstalled Movie Maker / Windows Essentials 2012

Then I did a restart - and as expected, Movie Maker not showing

• Then I Installed (reinstalled) Windows Essentials 2012

** I have repeated those three steps several times, including: Windows Essentials 2012 Repair

• It shows Movie Maker (Version 2012, Build 16.4.3522.0110) OK -
but on opening any .wlmp file, the
Movie Maker, Warning says: "MFC71.DLL is missing"

• I have Windows 7 Home Premium (c) 2009, Service Pack 1 - and I'm up-to-date with updates.

How can I fix this?

Why is Windows Live Messenger still bundled with the Windows Essentials 2012 Build 16.4.3522.0110 installer even though Windows Live Messenger was retired in April 2013?  SkyDrive was renamed to OneDrive in the new installer?  Also why does Windows Essentials 2012 still offer to install Messenger and OneDrive even when running Windows 8.1?
