Websites like SkyDrive and Outlook contain Web Messenger, which is a neat and useful feature, but sometimes I don't want it enabled. The closest I can get is being invisible, but even then that only shows my status as offline, and doesn't stop messages from coming in. If I'm in a place of buisness, and I need to grab a file off of SkyDrive, that doesn't prevent someone from chatting me something that could possibly get me fired from the workplace.

How do I disable it, if I can at all?
Hello,

Ever since Hotmail has been switch to the Outlook design, the web messenger in Outlook website is using eBuddy.

I did not notice this until my friend mentioned to me that it my account never go offline, even if I have deleted all my temporarily files, cookies, caches, active log-in, and logging out. I changed my password, too, and it remains online. I also shut down my only computer and my phone for about half the day and have my online friend watch my account status. None of it can log me out of my messenger from eBuddy.

I do not use check my email on other devices other than the one computer I have.

Any help is appreciated.
I have the same issue and I'm using Web Messenger.
When I try to use a third party app (i.e. eBuddy) it still fails.
  • Are contacts appearing on Web Messenger? If yes are they appearing online or Offline?
    Yes, they are appearing online
  • Were you able to restore and re-invite them? If yes are they appearing online or Offline?
No, they appear on the web so I cannot restore them.
  • Are all your contacts missing or just partial?
    Just partial

I have tried logging off and back on including the other options on this forum.

I accidentally selected to create new skype account the first time and the contacts were all there. I unlinked it and linked with my skype account and the result is only showing about 15 contacts when there should be 100+

after April 8th mandatory conversion, will we still be able to use the chat function without our own computer? I use the Library computers and don't plan on buying one.  But I like the Chat function. If "yes", do I have to download anything? Makes no sense to download when one doesn't own a computer.

i can use web messenger like ebuddy without any issues and get all live contacts. but can't connect on windows live messenger. running windows xp pro

uninstalled and installed everything clean uninstall and install 3 times. same.

I've looked on and off today for an answer to this, and I have been unable to find one, so...

I have several contacts who exclusively IM me through the "web messenger" found on the Hotmail page, rather than through the Windows Live client/program. Come March 15, after I have migrated my account to Skype, will I still be able to contact them, or will they need to download Skype? In other words, will the web messenger still be available after March 15, or is even that being discontinued? That's not, perhaps, the clearest way of putting it, but it's the best I can do.

Thanks.

im having many problems with hotmail and messenger. ive followed the help link from my hotmail page and its showing me as signed in under a name i changed months ago? i have only one email address and password but somehow windows live hotmail, live mail and messenger all show different profile details?
Starting today I can't sign into Windows Live Messenger.  I have 3 ID's and can't sign in with any of them.  I can use the Web messenger through my Hotmail accounts, but can't sign into Messenger.  I get the error code 81000490 and I have followed every direction in this forum and I'm still unable to sign in.  I've installed and uninstalled several times and it still doesn't work.  In some of the directions the options I'm supposed to be looking for don't even exist.  I have Windows 7 Pro and the version of Windows Live Essential is 16.4.3503.728.  I'm not being blocked by a firewall and I'm not being blocked by my Antivirus software. Often when I try to sign in none of the links work.  I have internet connection.  The only messages I get are that I'm not connected  to MSN and that error code.  I need help please, I'm pulling my hair out here.

Thanks, Lauren
