Wondering if  Microsoft security essentials is perhaps not compatible with my macbook air.

It seems as if someone has gained access to my contacts and has sent them an ad from my account. I have a macbook air and I tried to download microsoft security essentials as provided free by hotmail but it did not download. i am a lost as to how to deal with this problem. Quite computer incompetant here. Any help woould be appreciated.
I'm running Microsoft Outlook for Mac 2011, Version 14.2.2 (120421) on Mac OS X, Version 10.6.8, build 10K549.  My "$HOME/Documents" directory is a symbolic link to a directory on an external NAS, accessed by NFS.

I observed that e-mail search functionality doesn't work, and the reason appears to be that Spotlight refuses to index this volume:

$ sudo mdutil -i on /Volumes/MyNFSMountPoint
Password:
/Volumes/MyNFSMountPoint:
Error: unable to perform operation.  (-100)
No index.

For the sake of reliability, I am very reluctant to move "$HOME/Documents" directory to, say, my local drive.  (My NAS is protected by RAID and is backed up regularly.  Moving critical data off of the NAS would complicate matters considerably.)  By the way, it's perfectly fine with me if exactly one host--the computer on which I'm running Microsoft Outlook--is responsible for indexing the drive.  In other words, I don't require or expect multiple Mac OS X hosts to be able to use Spotlight with this volume--just the one that is running Outlook.

Having one's e-mail in a network-mounted directory is an entirely reasonable use case, so I'm wondering:

1. Perhaps I've misconfigured my NFS server or the NFS client settings in Mac OS X, and with a tweak or two, Spotlight can be made to start indexing this internal drive.
2. Perhaps Microsoft offers an alternative way, that does not depend on Spotlight, to index and search through one's e-mail.
3. If neither #1 nor #2 is the case, how can I contact Microsoft to request that they add this feature to a subsequent release of Outlook?  Whether the deficiency is in Spotlight, Darwin, Mac OS X, or Microsoft Outlook, Outlook really ought to be able to cope with such a use case as this.  Not being able to search e-mail on a network-mounted volume is unacceptable.

Where do I go from here?

I've been having the same problem as many others with the mandatory update.  I cannot send or reply to emails.  I get the Failed to Initiate Shared Canvas message.  I tried the steps to delete Live Essentials files, and I also Uninstalled Windows Live Essentialsm..  But four files wouldn't delete out of C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Windows Live Essentials: SQMAPI.DLL, WLIDNSP.DLL, WLID.SVC  and WLIDSVCM.  All said they were open in either Live ID Sign-In Assistant or Audio Sign-in.  Nevertheless, I reinstalled Live Essentials and am still getting the same message.

Come on Microsoft.  How do we fix this mess.  I would like to be able to send emails.

I'm using Windows live Mail on an eight-month-old computer running Windows 7 64-bit. It seemed to be doing just fine until my dial-up BellSouth/AT&T Internet account instructed me to change my inbound and outbound mail settings from the old BellSouth servers to new AT&T servers. After struggling for weeks to get the new settings to work, I still have one set of problems which is making my mail a nightmare to use. I'm constantly getting the error message:

"Unable to send or receive messages for the Bellsouth account. Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity.

Server: 'inbound.att.net'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0F
Protocol: POP3
Port: 995
Secure(SSL): Yes"

I think because my e-mail can never finish downloading, I'm getting a second problem: I'm constantly getting the same messages flooding my inbox over and over until there are hundreds of each one. I've had this problem at times in the past with other computers using mail programs I'm more familiar with like Microsoft outlook. I I have gone directly into my AT&T account many times now deleting messages hoping that there's one that's screwing up Microsoft live, but it never fixes the problem. Going into my e-mail account with my browser is also a problem, because for some reason about half the time whenever I try to login, the browser window (Internet Explorer 9) simply closes! The AT&T website where I check my mail is the only one that does this. It's maddening!

I'm spending 90% of my computer time now desperately deleting messages out of both Microsoft live and directly from AT&T. The only thing I know to do in the Microsoft Live settings is under the advanced tab where I've increased my server timeouts to first 3 min. and then 4 min. Under delivery "leave a copy of messages on server" is currently unchecked, but I've tried it both ways and neither seems to make any difference.

If someone out there can help me I would be so grateful. I feel like I'm on the edge of losing my sanity over this. I'm losing many hours that I can't afford to lose, and I'm almost ready to throw this computer that I desperately need out the window! Thank you.

plz help ...................all my business emails and contacts are there. my business is in trouble.
Dear Microsoft.

If I send an email using Outlook 2011 for Mac, it puts two "From:" fields in the headers of this mail.

If for instance I send a mail to myself, the source contains

"From: Mark Timmer <*** Email address is removed for privacy ***>"

and a bit further on

"From: *** Email address is removed for privacy ***".

If I use webmail, this is not the case. Now, several mail servers reject my emails, giving a "permanent fatal error" with the error message

"reason: 550 Messages should have one or no From headers, not 2.".

Could this please be resolved? I doesn't seem like I can change anything to fix this, can I?

Kind regards,
Mark Timmer
