Hi, I recently reset our laptop to factory settings. Prior to the reset I used Windows Live mail and used the option to export messages and contacts, which I did to an external drive. The emails have all been saved as .eml within a known folder which I have access to.

After reinstalling Windows Live Mail, I had no problem importing our contacts, but for some reason I am having difficulty importing the emails?

Steps I have followed:

Top left dropdown, click Import Messages.

Choose option 'Windows Live Mail'

Next

Browse for the folder on my external drive

Choose known folder and press OK

Next

The following window opens:

No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has required the files open.

Please select another folder or close applications that may have files open.

I can't think what other application could be using the files...if there is one. The files are definitely in the destination folder I have directed it to.

Is there a fix for this, am I missing something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks,

Craig

I have an external drive that I keep most of my photos on.  I have a particular folder on the external drive I want to access.  When I click on that folder it opens, but instead of thumbnails of each photo, all the photos have the photo gallery icon instead.  Then when I click one of those icons, I get this message "Photo Gallery can't open this photo because you do not have permission to access the file location."  How do I change this so I can get my photos?  I have windows 8.

I have a new computer.

All my old photos are on the old computer and on an external hard drive.

I have attached the external drive to th new computer.

I can now view these photos easily on Photo Gallery.

But I know longer have all my old folders, which organized these photos into favorites, vacation places, people, etc.

Can these folders be resurrected to the Photo Gallery on the new computer?

And if I am able to import these folders, will they recognize which photos belong in which folders?

To put it another way, is there a way for the photos on the external hard drive to be organized in those folders the way they were on the old computer?

I have recently upgraded to a new hard drive and chose to do a clean install rather than clone my old hard drive.  I have a problem in exporting/importing my MS Live Email.

As background I am running Windows 7 (64 bit), and Windows Live Email 2012.  When I use the WLE export feature I choose to export all folders.  I can watch as the utility is exporting in Windows Live Email format to an external drive and counting down the files in each subfolder to include my inbox and sent folders.

However when I import from the external drive to my new install of WLE on my new hard drive not all the email sub folders are imported, notably the inbox and the sent email folder.  When I click on the export file and look at the sub folder email structure the inbox and sent mail folder are now where to be seen (even though I saw the email messages being counted down in the sub folders as they were exporting).  I have tried repairing the WLE 2012 software and re-reported/imported with the same results.

The overall size of the exported emails folders is almost 1 GB.  The sent email has about 3600+ emails in it while the inbox has about 1600+ emails (mostly junk emails but that is for another discussion).

Anyway how can I export the these emails?  Could it be that the inbox or sent mail  folders contain corrupted emails which interferes with creating the proper subfolder export structure?  Or are these subfolders exceeding some folder size threshold?

Any help from the community would be appreciative.

How do I transfer my email contact list and details from an external drive to my current computer? A tech person put that info onto the external drive when he couldn't fix my old computer and didn't tell me how he did it, or how to transfer it to my newer computer.  I'm not very tech savvy so clear instructions would help.

Hi

I am hoping someone can assist with this. My hard-drive on my iMac died on the weekend, I have a new one installed. I have all my files backed up on an WD Essential for Mac external drive, last done about 3 weeks ago. All the documents etc are there, I downloaded them last night and it says the last backup was 3 weeks ago. However when I retrieve them from the drive and copy to the new hard drive the Main Identity version appears to be one from December 2012? Why would the Main Identity file and all its contents (contacts, mail etc) not be a backup of the version of my mail from about 3 weeks ago like everything else?

Otherwise I have lost about 8 months of mail which is a problem.

Appreciate any thoughts. I hope this is the correct forum.

I was used to saved my emails confirmation of payment or other to an external drive. Now i cannot even see the option to save a file can anyone help

thank you

Hi,
I'm getting the following error

"We couldn't find your skydrive folder in c:\...\skydrive
You're SkyDrive folder may have been deleted, or if your skydrive folder is on an external drive, it may have been removed. Click OK to reconfigure your Skydrive folder"

I'm using window 8, I haven't changed anything recently.
The C:\ is not an external drive, when I click OK to reconfigure, nothing happens.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the SkyDrive app but that has not resolved the error.
The icon on my skydrive folder now looks like a normal folder and it no longer has the skydrive symbol on it.

Can anyone help?
Is there some way to get the skydrive to reconfigure itself?
As a last resort how do I totally remove the skydrive and fully re-install?
I'm trying to backup my WLM messages to an external drive. WLM program wants to backup to a folder, I want to backup to an external hard drive. Is it possible?

Had issues with Vista OS, so did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional. Used Easy Transfer and an external drive

to save files, and transfer back onto the same PC with the fresh OS installed.  Installed Windows Live 2012, and have

attempted to import files, which are looking like they are importing, but I've not been able to find them.

Can someone help me find them, and move them into the appropriate mail folders in plain, easy to follow instructions?

I'm not the computer wizard that I hope to be...... lol

Thanks in advance

Mike
