I recently updated to  Windows 8.1. from XP and now use Photo Gallery but have to say I, like many others, wish we could go back to the simplicity of XP.

I edited a number of photographs in Photo Gallery and duly saved the alterations.  However when I now go into the folder the format of some of the edited photos has changed - they appear to have been "thinified" -  and the only way I can see the photo as it should be is by hovering  on the "black & white" box in the Edit format and photo goes back to 'normal'.   However, having then closed down the folder the 'corrupted' format then re-appears when next opened.  It does not happen with all photos.  What have I done and how can I cure this?

I'm trying to upload photos originally saved off XP onto a cd and now wish to upload them onto Windows 7.

But, when trying to do so the computer recognises the files currently on the disc but when I try to open them the following appears:

Photo Gallery can't open this photo or video.  This file is not supported or you don't have the latest updates to Photo Gallery.

I'm not very good with computers, as you may have guessed, but could you please advise how I can rectify the situation.  Thanks in anticipation.

I set up Windows Family Safety on my own laptop, which runs Windows 7 Home Professional, to control my daughter's laptop, which runs XP. It has never worked properly -- the password never works on the XP computer no matter how many times I reset it -- and I am trying to delete. I was successfully able to delete it from the Windows 7 laptop using the CMD line method, but I have not been able to do so with the XP system. I have tried the following:

1. Add or Remove Programs: I click Change/Remove for Windows Live Essentials and nothing happens

2. CMD line method: I log in as Administrator, type in the proper command. Sometimes nothing happens. Sometimes it says I need to be logged in as Administrator -- but I *am* logged in as Administrator. I have tried it without the (x86), and with the (x86); when I do that, it says it's not a valid path.

3. I have tried downloading a new version of wlarp.exe from g.live.com. That version says it isn't a valid 32-bit program.

I've read through a number of threads here; many of them point to a Family Safety board that apparently no longer exists.

Please advise.

I have windows XP. Do I need to get windows 8? Either for all of the Microsoft and outlook stuff but also for the xbox live. Because my son is getting his xbox for christmas and I want it to all work!!
Unable to create folders ,signature ,rules or any other user options in(windows 8) Hotmail or Outlook/live.  To create new folders and rules I am having to access via a browser on my old windows 7 and XP machines. Neither can I directly access the Hotmail calender from within the Mail App. The only options that are shown are when I right click an e-mail and they are; "pin to start-move -mark as unread or, synch" on the bottom bar. The top screen   shows only "move, reply or delete". I can't find contacts but I know they are here.  Win key + i takes me to PC settings and personalisation and other ultimately non relevant areas.
To make it clear I cannot mark mail in any way, I cannot set any rules, I cannot create new folders, I cannot create signatures. ,However these options  seem to be  visible and obvious from machines running windows 7 and XP. Does anyone know where these are hidden on win 8?
I have a very light shade of blue phone that comes up (windows live call) but I am not able to do any thing with it. Don't even see a place to learn more about it any where. I sincerely, thank you for your time and energy.

I have XP. How do I add, remove, or edit a contact to existing contacts list?  How do I create a new contact list?  Help???
