I have a PRX file (Windows Media Profile) that I managed to use successfully with Windows Movie Maker before I switched computers (the old one died).

So now I am using Windows 7 (64bit) and Windows Movie Maker 2012 (v16.4.3508.0205).

I'm sure that there was a special folder I had dropped the PRX file into, but nothing seems to trigger the PRX file loading into the publish/"save movie" dropdown.

The locations I have tried are:

Libraries\Documents      (effectively the root of my documents)

C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\Shared\Profiles

C:\Program Files (x86)\Movie Maker\Shared\Profiles

C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery\Video Profiles  (movie maker in installed along this path)

I know that the PRX file is still unchanged, so I know that is good... just getting frustrated trying to trigger Movie Maker to recognise it!

It's been a long time since I've had to use Windows Movie Maker so I'm still using a machine with Windows Vista Business, Version 6.0, SP2, Movie Maker version 6.0.6002.18273.

I started with a .MOV widescreen home video (properties say it's 1920x1088) and it previews fine in WMM but upon publishing it keeps scrunching into a narrow format.  I've been looking up answers to this and I've already tried a bunch of the usual suspects:

1) Video properties are set to NTSC, aspect ratio 16:9
2) Under publishing settings I've tried various things from:

     a) "Best quality for playback on my computer (display size 1920x1080, aspect ratio 16:9)"
     or
     b) I've tried some of the "More settings", including DV-AVI (NTSC, 720x480 16:9), Windows DVD Quality (720x480 4:3, which is not what I want), Windows Media DVD Widescreen Quality (720x480 16:9 but it still doesn't work)

I don't get to select "High quality video (large)" as suggested by some of the threads I've searched because I seem to be using an older version of WMM and this is not one of the choices available.

Strangely, the one only way to get output that looks widescreen (but really poor quality) is to tell WMM that the video format is PAL, which it's not.  I'm not able to upload such a large PAL file to facebook, in any case.

Are there any other suggestions for how to fix this with my version of WMM?

Thanks.

Ok so when you upload your finished project directly from Windows Movie Maker to YouTube it says saving then goes to publishing. My question is when it is 'saving' where is it saving to? Is this taking up memory on my computer ? In that case I would like to go through and delete all these sitting files I don't need - thank you in advance for any insight you may have on this topic.

P.s. Only being able to upload 15 mins of video at a time is a pain in the bootie - just saying - totally unrelated

Hi, I've been researching this and I'm not finding that this is a feature available in Windows Movie Maker, but can you please provide suggestions/ideas on how I can do this?

I usually use Windows Movie Maker to create my YouTube videos (cover songs, etc), and I'm wanting to do one, where I play multiple videos simultaneously, while retaining the sound in each, so that they play and the volume works on the multiple ones at once (doing an a capella type idea for a video, and need them to play simultaneously). Is this possible with a plugin or anything through Movie Maker? Or is there an alternative? Thanks!

I have recently upgraded to Windows 8.1 (8GB RAM; and drivers updated for AMD and Intel Display adapters)

The Windows Movie Maker 2012 when editing videos shows a black screen for video only , but the audio can be heard

I have updated the video drivers, and codecs to no avail

Andy advice ?

My windows movie maker worked fine before but now whenever I try to edit a video, my videos end up twitching or flickering in the previews and even after saving.
HI,

Need some help with my MovieMaker, it was working before but all of sudden it stopped working.

I'm using Windows Movie Maker Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3508.0205)

When attempting to publish, I get this error message:

____.mp4 wasn't published successfully

The following problem occurred in your movie: (0x800488E5)

I have reinstalled Movie Maker from Microsoft's website for the Windows Essentials 2012 many times and preformed the repairs and even played with the compatibility mode without any results.

Please help.

Thanks,

Will

When saving a movie, the highest resolution is 1920x1080.  Even when you set a custom resolution, it will not let you choose a number greater than 1920x1080.

If the custom resolution did not have this limit, then I could save videos to my native screen resolution (3840x2160).  The clips that I put together are in 4K, but when you save the movie, it can't save in 4K.

:(

Does anyone else want the custom resolution to allow higher resolutions?

I created a movie yesterday using the original movie maker that came pre-installed on my HP Pavilion 6 desktop PC. I am on Windows 7. When I burnt the video to DVD, it wouldn't play on a DVD player, or someone else's computer. Looking at the forums I was recommended to upgrade Movie maker. I did using the Windows essentials. Now I can't open Movie maker at all. I get a message saying I need to check my system requirements. I have the latest updates, and my Intel graphics card seems to be ok. I can't use the Intel site to upgrade because they say that the card is a custom card and needs to be upgraded via the PC manufacturer's site where there doesn't seem to be any upgrades available. Please assist.
