I have Win8.1 and Movie Maker 2012. I am trying to open mod files in MM and at first it would come in but when played it would only be static. under options i turned off the advanced stabilization/processing and then i could get audio but video is only a black screen. i turned the stabiliazation/processing back on and restarted and now the audio plays fine with these on but the video is still black.

when i open the video in media player it plays fine. however, in photo gallery the preview for the video is the same as for movie maker - audio but only a black screen for video.

any help would be greatly appreciated. i have spent all morning on this short video of my daughter. i don't want my mac friends starting to say i told you so!

I have Windows 7 with Windows Live V 2011 (Build 15.4.3502.0922)

I pieced together a video a few days ago, saved it to my computer, then published on youtube with no problems at all.  I started a new project last night, finished it, and saved it.  When I played the saved wmv file, the screen went black in some portions of the 4.11 minute video.  I went back to Windows Live and re-saved it.  The wmv went black in different portions of the video.  I have tried re-saving several times, and every time, it is black in some spots, but it is never the same!

I have checked that my driver is updated (ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250) twice.  I have done an error check on my drives.  I don't know what else to do.  I have read some of the threads and I can't follow some of the advice with more technical things.  Help?

Hi,

I seem to be having the same problem as many other people, Windows live programs, upon opening, are partialy blacked out or compleatly blacked out. Images below.

It is also worth mentioning that my expired Norton programs also refuse to open

I have already tried removing, uninstalling and reinstalling these programs, as well as removing and uninstalling Norton. I have also updated all of my drivers and using the fixit program to no avail. This occured a few months ago, so there is no hope in doing a clean install. Is there any solution to this issue?

Many Thanks

Ed

I"m trying to do a final project in movie maker, and when I clicked on it, all I got was a blank black screen. I could see the top toolbar, but nothing else. I tried logging in, but it wouldn't let me type in my information. I tried accessing mail and messenger, both of which worked perfectly before, and had the same problem. I've run all the trouble shooting I could find on the support pages: uninstalled and reinstalled the updated versions, restarted the computer, run the programs as an administrator, updated my drivers, made sure my account still worked, etc. Nothing has helped. Now when I click on any of my newly-installed programs, all I get is a black screen - no toolbars, no login screen, nothing.

Movie Maker not function properly in Windows 8.1, it shows only black screen with Audio working, I have installed Windows Essentials 2012 repeatedly but no luck, I don't want to use convertors to convert my video clips as there are too many to convert, is there any fix by Microsoft? Thanks.

Am working on project that includes many short clips. Everything was fine this afternoon. Now when I open the project, some of the clips are fine - but others have no audio and only display a black screen (with the caption if there is one) instead of the video.

I tried adding the original footage into the project again. It worked fine for 1-2 minutes then ...no more audio and only a black screen.  Happens to 4-5 clips in a total of about 20.

Am so near finished with this project...and down to the wire on the deadline. Any ideas about what's going on and how to fix?

I've been trying to upload some videos for editing that I shot from a GoPro 3+ (MP4).  When I try to play the videos MM only plays a black screen with no sound for the duration of the video clips.  At the bottom where is says that MM is preparing my videos, the bar is 100 complete, but it never seems to totally prep the clips.  I've tried with several clips ranging in length from 1 second to 5 minutes and they all yield the same result.  I've kept the program running while I was away at work and still no progress upon arriving back at home.  Am I doing something wrong?  The program can't take 8 hours to prep a video clip, can it?
