Two installations failed and now I cannot clear the installers either through deletion or ending the task in Task Manager. Any ideas on how to clear?  Restart doesn't do it either.

There was an update to Windows Essentials recently (Feb 2014).   When installed it deleted Windows Live Mail and left me with no access to email.

This was VERY bad for me as I needed to receive a ferry ticket immediately.   I used System Restore to go back to the previous state and everything was OK but it took a long time and was very worrying.  Has anyone else had this problem?  I don't even know what Windows Essentials is nor whether I need it.  I will not take any further updates until I can have some sort of assurance that this will not happen again.

System is:- Windows 8.1;

email is;-  Windows Live Mail 2012 version 16.4.3508.0205

I know this has been discussed before but I have not seen any suggestions which have solved the problem. I have tried everything suggested including repairing windows essentials but STILL get the same error message when trying to open photo gallery. Please help!

Well, a pop up kept bugging me to allow an automatic upgrade for Windows Essentials ... I avoided it several times because it would NOT tell WHAT was in it.  Finally I took a break from work to Google it & realized Live Mail was part of this group & essential fro business ... so allowed it to take it's time loading, then more time to require a reboot.

EVER SINCE, Live Mail on win8.1-64 takes x10+ longer to load.

I found a similar problem reported by others since win7, even a Fix It download ... that after the trouble said it didn't apply to my version.

Today, still takes a long time to load - will actually time it later this week, as if that update might matter.  Probably 5-10 minutes?

I'm sorry but do these guys know what they are doing?  They are taught to believe it's OK to release green wood on us worker bees, then we help them cure and rid their work of bugs ... at our businesses expense?

I had installed this program thinking it was only an upgrade to Msft. Security Essentials. I didn't want the additional products but after installation I noted my Windows Live Mail was uninstalled. I do have Outlook but do prefer WLM. I had to go to a restore point to restore Windows Live Mail and wonder if this is a glitch or if this is inherent in the new product. If this is inherent, why no warning?

Thanks,

Arnold

I had a Windows Essentials update on Friday, 21/2/2014, since then I can't success my mails in storage folders, over 1000+ mails dating back over 10 years, I can see the folder, see the message header, but can't access the body of the message, when I click on it I get the following pop up box

"A problem occurred while trying to open this message"

"A problem has occurred, please try again"

My inbox is OK, as is my sent items folder, just the storage folders.

I'm running Win 8

Please help!

thanks

Nick

After thinking I had installed windows essentials (but cant find it) windows live mail icon disappeared and got an error msg that said my corrupt calendar was corrupted and would not allow windows live mail to open. Have not found a way to fix it. Whats up

Yesterday, Windows Live Writer was working fine, then I tried to update Windows Live Writer— everything went south.  It was installed and working fine. I uninstalled thinking that'd resolve the issue on reinstall, now the application won't install at all.

I can't install the update to Windows Live Writer because of the error codes mentioned above.

The installer for Microsoft Windows Essentials go all the way through and then gets to 96% and then crashes with the error.

I have—

  • uninstalled, reboooted
  • reinstalled, rebooted
  • used the full installer, rebooted
  • used wlarp.EXE  /cleanup:all /q,
  • used msconfig and removed all non essential applications and services from startup,
  • installed all patches and driver updates.
  • installed the latest .net
  • and Internet Explorer 11 installed.
  • even tried installing under a different user profile

Why is Windows Live Messenger still bundled with the Windows Essentials 2012 Build 16.4.3522.0110 installer even though Windows Live Messenger was retired in April 2013?  SkyDrive was renamed to OneDrive in the new installer?  Also why does Windows Essentials 2012 still offer to install Messenger and OneDrive even when running Windows 8.1?
