Subject: Urgent matter for a email account recovery
Date: Thu, 31 Oct 2013 22:26:46 -0400

Hello microsoft/ hotmail/ outlook recovery staff,
My name is maryanne susanna boyce , I been trying too recover my account *** Email address is removed for privacy *** and I been having a big problem logging to it.  I didn't receive my  questioner or did not come up so i thought that you guys could make a manual confirmation of my account detail.
I am not really good with computers and recently changed my password but I didn't write it down to which I feel sorry but I need your help to recover this account. I tried several times to fill up the form but I get the same email which states that I dont have enough info, I tried my best but I cant really get it back, Please and thank you.

sincerely,

Maryanne Susanna Boyce

P.S: don't hesitate to contact me to this email address with steps or any other thing that you deem proper in order to recover my old hotmail account.

Does the new Outlook.com (formerly Hotmail) support/use TLS for SMTP transmission to encrypt messages in transit like Gmail does?

Thanks.

Hi

When using WIndows 8 Pro, using Local Group Policy Editor (gpedit.msc)

"System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing"

is set to enabled, Outlook cannot send E-Mails if an Outlook.com account is used.

More of the issue:

"System cryptography: Use FIPS compliant algorithms for encryption, hashing, and signing"

is found in

Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options

or, by looking at the registry: FIPSAlgorithmPolicy

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SecEdit\Reg Values\MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Lsa/FIPSAlgorithmPolicy/Enabled

which as per description does

This policy setting determines whether the Transport Layer Security/Secure Sockets Layer (TLS/SSL) Security Provider supports only the TLS_RSA_WITH_3DES_EDE_CBC_SHA cipher suite.

Settings:

SMTP Server: smtp.live.com
Port 587
Type of encrypted connection: TLS

In Outlook when testing the account settings, I get:

Send test e-mail message: The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues ´, contact your server administrator or internet service provider (ISP).

In Outlook when sending, I get:

Task '...(at)hotmail.com - Sending reported error (0x800CCC0F) : The connection to the server was interrupted. If this problem continues, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

Software

Windows 8 Pro x64
Outlook 2013 x64

Which raises the question

Why is it that Outlook.com/Hotmail does NOT have FIPS compliance whereas my other free email provider does?!

We have all that important information already setup, GMAIL YAHOO and every one receives our emails but HOTMAIL still refuses..., what that can be?

We have right PTR, 69.64.46.20 , support TLS and every thing..

Please, help us.

I arrived into Mumbai, India two days ago from Dubai.  On day one I could log into Outlook and check my mail.  Now all of a sudden I cannot log in.  I am getting following message:

  • Hi all,

Ok, so I've set up a custom domain on Outlook.com and activated the user account in question.

I know I can set up the account in Outlook 2013 as "Outlook.com or Exchange ActiveSync" using m.hotmail.com as the server, but I would rather set it up as POP / SMTP since then it can go into my existing PST and that way I can also continue to use a single calendar in Outlook 2013.

However, I simply cannot get SMTP to work. POP3 works fine (pop3.live.com, Port 995 with SSL)

But SMTP never works. Everything I've seen says to use port 587 with TLS using smtp.live.com, but that doesn't work. In fact, I have tried every combination of the following ports and security settings and none of them work:

    Ports:
    25, 465, 587
    Security:
    None, SSL, TLS

Has anybody gotten this to work, and if so, what's the secret?

    Thanks in advance!

    LZ
I have Win 7 Live Mail.  When I try to send mail, I get an error message telling me to "STARTTLS", but there is no option in setup to select TLS for outgoing server.  HELP!!!
I upgraded from Entourge 2008 to Outlook 2011 (gmail is mail host) and now I get the starttls error for outbound messages (can receive just fine).  But there is no where to set TLS as an option  - only SSL, which doesn't work.  Any ideas?
