Hello everyone . I forgot my password recently and tried to recover it but i had problem.
There were tow choices to send the code to you :
1. By sending sms to me to give me the code number
2. Call me to get it
I tried choice No. 2 and my phone ran but unfortunately i pressed cancel and i did not mean
it. Then choice No. 2 vanish and and just choice No. 1 remained.
I tried a lot of times No. 1 by entering my last 4 number to send the code but there is no code,
i can not get it and i do not know what to do .
I hope you help me .
I made the fatal mistake of mistyping my hotmail password 3 times.
I then followed the link for the password reset, and tried to fill the on-line form: I received an automatic answer that I did not provide enough information.
I did not save a phone number, so I cannot have single use code texted.
I then tried with having a password recovery link sent to me to my secondary email accounts: this link never arrived.
I tried this last option (password recovery link via email) one more time, one week after... same thing, never arrived.
In essence, without the password recovery link, I am stuck.
Of course:
- I checked the spam in my secondary email (gmail), and no email from microsoft
- I checked if my account functions, and it does!
The issue might be that I had 2 password recovery emails - one was my former work email (not working any more) and one was gmail (fully working).
I contacted the live help (call center) but they don't provide voice support.

What can I do?
Any way I can get a password recovery link sent to my gmail account?

PLEASE HELP - it is 2 weeks I am trying to access this account!

which has been closed to stop us protesting too much I had contacted Microsoft support.

I essence they tell me that there is nothing they can (or will) do about this problem. I cannot show anyone what they have said as they have without a "by your leave" removed the support request and there is nothing there but a blank page. If I did that to my clients I'd have none left in a week.

So my friends account is locked and they will do nothing to help a LEGITIMATE owner get back to her account, along with contact details that she cannot find anywhere else, and it is down to a flaw in M$ supposedly brilliant two stage authentication rubbish.

So not only have they cost her important information, but friends too - for it is the ONLY place she had their information and now has no way to contact them...

That's fine. She has told me to strip every vestige of Microsoft from every machine that she owns, along with all her company as well. Servers, desktops, the lot. By my estimates that will cost M$ thousands of dollars this year alone. It will be my pleasure too.

If they treat you like they have her, then I suggest you do what she did and abandon this bunch of profiteering thugs.

So here it is again. Just so you know.

She is a bit naive with IT and her account had been subject to attacks from Indians.

But she had least been changing her passwords and made them more and more complicated (I was insulted when M$ told us to forget the old account, open a new one and referred us to a page on creating secure passwords. Try this one that she was using    !54DkEn&sc%   And that isn't secure?)

At some point she enabled two part authentication as M$ encouraged her to do.

At some point when trying to be hacked the indian had managed to get his phone attached to the account (I haven't tried to replicate how he did it, but it is what happened)

When she then forgot her latest password, she panicked, tried lots of different ones and got locked out of the account.

Now she isn't sure which one is the right one

She then tried password recovery.

Stage one - send and email to an alternative account

Stage two - use the number on the account to receive an SMS. Except it's the wrong number

There is no third option like answer 40 questions (which she has all set up and can remember most of the details)

And there you are. Locked out. She can only do one of the two parts correctly.

M$ support won't help (PLEASE don't tell me again to contact the idiots in support) - they are just another bunch of cheap 3rd world support staff who can barely read, follow the rules, and can't give a damn. We have offered to provide complete positive proof of identity with whatever M$ require etc etc but no, they aren't interested.

And now M$ are a large number of customers down.

Good luck to the rest of you - I just hope you a) don't have an experience like this and b) forget the 2 stage authentication - it's only marketing to get your phone number anyway so they can track you more easily and c) wake up, smell the coffee and find a decent company to work with (I don't include Google in that - they are as bad)

If someone from higher up the food chain with some sense and some authority would like to contact me to discuss this then I am all ears. Regrettably knowing the attitude I doubt that will ever happen

I am trying to sort out the mess my friend got into with her hotmail account.

She had it hacked by some b*stard who has added his telephone number to the account. She managed to get back into to it once and turned on 2 step verification I believe, but he then managed to add HIS telephone number to the account, and since then she has been unable to get back in.

She has a gmail recovery email on the account.

You get in a loop like this :

Go to reset password

Sends email to the gmail acccount

Go back to login and it wants an alternative method, but you can't use the same email address again - WHY ????? I've just used it ! This is madness

So the only alternative is the phone number which belongs to some b*stard in India.

"Since you recently used this info to reset your password, you need to pick a different way to verify your account.

This extra security step is in place because you've turned on two-step verification. If the other options don't work for you, the info you used to reset your password will work as your second factor starting 12/1/2013."

What on earth does that last sentence mean ?
  "the info you used to reset your password will work as your second factor"  I realise the 12/1/2013 means locked out AGAIN. ARRRGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH.

We have had this every time we have tried to reset the password.

Does ANYONE have any idea how to get round this ? It is ridiculous that a legitimate owner of an account finds themselves locked out by a 3rd party who had no right to be there in the first place.

We have tried the normal answer 40 questions recovery method, but kindly, M$ in their infinite wisdom don't let you use this if you have two step verification enabled. "Because you've turned on two-step verification for your account, we ignore these requests but wanted to let you know."

So now she has been without her account for about 4 months or so as she keeps getting kicked back out again, and is fed up to the back teeth with the recovery system and anything Microsoft.

I'd be grateful if someone could give us an idea of how we can retrieve this account.

I have requested a password recovery email and nothing has been sent to me despite the request being sent more than 70 hours ago. Please help asap!!
