Outlook.com – Can’t get past CAPTCHA

31. July 2012 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: attempt, CAPTCHA, com, limit, microsoft, Microsoft account, Microsoft Account Settings, SUMMARY

SUMMARY:

After logging into Outlook.com with my Microsoft Account credentials (no problems logging in), I'm prompted to enter a CAPTCHA.  After entering the information correctly, the following message is displayed:

You've reached the limit for number of attempts. These limits help us protect against spam from automated programs. You can try again later.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Load www.outlook.com
  2. Successfully login with Microsoft Account (verified I am signed in as I can access my Microsoft Account Settings).
  3. Immediately redirected to a page that indicates: "Help us fight junk email - Most junk comes from automated programs, which can't solve puzzles like this. (Sorry we have to ask you to prove you're a person.) "
  4. Enter CAPTCHA phrase and click Continue.

EXPECTED RESULT:  Successful login or the option to make another attempt.

ACTUAL RESULT:  Message - You've reached the limit for number of attempts. These limits help us protect against spam from automated programs. You can try again later.

NOTE:  I'm certain the CAPTCHA was entered correctly.  I made another attempt a few hours later but get the same result.

Account Sign-In Changed Without Confirmation, How to Change it Back?

31. July 2012 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: address change, change, com, confirmation, Microsoft account, Outlook, test
Trying outlook.com, I was offered the ability to change my e-mail address. My first two picks weren't available, so I added a test e-mail address to see if the system was working.

Turns out it was available and it immediately changed my name! But the problem was, it sent a PIN and welcome message through SMS, without offering anyway to confirm the e-mail address change. What's worse, when it asked my to verify my password after selecting the e-mail address, the address had already been changed? THERE IS NO WAY TO VERIFY YOUR IDENTITY when changing your outlook.com e-mail address!

So I want to change it back. I went to account.live.com with the new Metro account management page. As of now, I am unable to change back into my original Microsoft Account name.

One more thing to clarify: the previous e-mail is linked as a linked Microsoft Account. Though when I click it with the account picker, it refreshes the page and does nothing. Meaning, I cannot return to my previous e-mail's inbox or anything. This is from within the outlook.com client.

Old: *** Email address is removed for privacy ***, my desired e-mail address as of this writing.
New: *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

Please help!
