Live Mail 2012 inop shows frozen screen checking for new msgs – name ( bar says and moves incredibly slow and says executing

New install last week on Windows 8 - new PC  Live Mail 2012 worked 1 day then when I click link to Live Mail ( 3 different icons) I see message "checking for new messages - names  for my wife and I.  Pop up on screen said executing for over 24 hours and  we could not get into it so tried using Task Mgr to End process and even tried re downloading but the process seems to be stuck and no known way to get it fixed.
