On the morning of Wednesday, August 14th, 2013, I had the same issues which affected most Outlook users of not being able to access my email from PC or mobile.

Once service was restored, I found that (literally) thousands of emails from my Inbox folder had completely disappeared.  All of my emails which were sorted into folders are still in my account, but all of the emails prior to the morning of August 14th are gone from the Inbox folder.

Considering that I've had my account since the late 1990s (Hotmail transitioned recently to Outlook), there are a lot of emails that were unsorted from the Inbox, and it's really important for me to be able to access those messages.  I've stuck with Hotmail/Outlook even as people have ridiculed me for using the email, but if this is going to be something that can happen, I'll be glad to make my current Gmail account my primary means of communication with people.

Hi, after I set up an alias, I received a welcome message which read,

Here are a few tips to help you get started:
  • To send email messages from this alias, click on your address (above the To line in the message) and select your alias from the list.
  • If you set up a separate inbox folder for your alias, messages sent to the alias will go there. Otherwise, messages sent to your alias will go to your regular inbox.
How do I set up the separate inbox?

Cheers,
Drew

I have just noticed that I am missing the emails in my Inbox received ever since I created my account and up to 20-07-2013 (several years).

I don't know when they actually disappeared and they are not in any other folder.

I seriously need to get those emails back. I tried the option to recover deleted messages but it only returned one recent email.

Plus, something else strange happened:
1. At 20:31 (6th of August) I received an email from Microsoft welcoming me to the new Inbox folder of Outlook.com.
2. Right after that one, still at 20:31, I received a "Delivery Status Notification (Failure)" email from postmaster@... regarding an email that I didn't send myself.
3. After that, my android email client configured with my hotmail account notified me it stopped receiving emails because the password of my account had been changed (again, not by myself).
4. I realized this only after a few minutes after which I immediately changed my password (Outlook.com was able to detect that my account had been compromised and prompted me to it after confirming my identity)
5. After logging in with my new password I realized I had received several dozens more of those "Delivery Status Notification (Failure)" emails (each an attempt of emailing a different subgroup from my contact list).
6. At the same time I realized also that I was missing all my emails prior to 20-07-2013.

I need support: how can I recover my emails?
Initially, I lost all emails in the Inbox folder prior to March 2013, with the forced change to Outlook.
I've dealt with this and my intense frustration with the issue.
Now, I've again lost all emails in the Inbox folder prior to May 6, 2013.
This is completely unacceptable.
I've looked everywhere to determine if there is an auto-archive feature on or something.
This has nothing to do with Conversation or Grouping, I don't use those.
Even the Deleted Messages folder didn't go back further than May 6.
I cannot afford to keep losing emails, what on earth am I doing wrong
(other than not keeping 800 folders to sort every single email that comes in)?!
Each email account I attach to Outlook.com have its own inbox folder. I have tried to locate a rule that put all new emails into one single inbox folder. Is this possibly?

Hi,

I set up hotmail account on my mobile device. At the moment, there are inbox folder and POP folder. Most of my emails from August 2012 to May 2013 are missing. I tried to recover deleted emails but it failed. Is there anyway you can recover my lost emails?

Thanks,

My Inbox notified that I have one email to be read. I do not see any unread email in my inbox. The email is nowhere to be found.
Already tried this:
  1. Sign in to your Microsoft account.
  2. Navigate to the Inbox page.
  3. Open your Inbox folder.
  4. Just below the +New button, there will be a "View:" category, click on that then select Unread. (Note: Doing so, all of your unread emails will be populated.)

No email in this list.

Very disturbing this...

Any idea?
