After a new install of Office 2011 for Mac I constantly get this error -

There is a problem with the office database.

I have followed numerous support articles which have involved Using the Database utility to recreate it, deleting the folder, moving the folder to the desktop, I have deleted and reinstalled 3 times and get the same error all of the time.

Excel and Powerpoint load, Word hangs at the welcome screen and Outlook never loads.

Anything else I can try?

Hi all, I hope that the title makes some kind of sense, sorry if I have used the wrong terminology

My Outlook database has a problem, but using the database utility as requested stalls at step 4 [-1800]

If I create a new identify and basically start from scratch rather than try and copy folders one by one (trying to avoid the corrupted one) into the new database what affect would this have on my wife's working outlook when she logs in to her desktop account? Is there a way of preserving her currently working Outlook whilst trying to repair or start again with mine?
Many thanks
Doug

Under Mac OS 10.68 using Outlook 2011 the database is corrupt.   Cannot delete even one mail from the deleted items folder.  The database utility opens and demands a rebuild.  But the rebuilt doesn't help.   When EXPORTING mail to the desktop, the export stops 1/3 of the way and demands a rebuild or the program closes.  The program works fine if one leaves the more than 3,000 deleted items in the folder.  The database has been rebuilt multiple times without success.  Nothing can be deleted from the mail trash folder.

Stellar Phoenix has an OLM recovery program  http://www.stellarinfo.com/email-repair/outlook-mac-repair.php, but their tech support said that their program only works on an exported file, so Stellar cannot be used.  Another support rep said the datafile is an OLM file and the program is worth trying.

1.  Is the mail database file  (222 MB) an OLM file ?

2.  Has anyone used Stellar Phoenix on their data file and it brought success ?

3.  It seems the SP2 update to MSO 2011 is the cause of this lethal corruption.  Has anyone tried reinstalling and using MSO 2011 and not updating the program, and if so was that met with success.

4.  Will upgrading the OS 10.68 to 10-.7, 10.8, or 10.9 improve the chances of the database utility fixing this corruption ?

5.  Is the ONLY cure to make a new database and start fresh ?  This means that one will have to reassign the default database when wanting to see all the old e-mail.

6.  Is there an application which will export all the e-mail to a single readable and searchable document, thereby one can keep both Outlook and the old mail open and visible.

Thank you.

Thank you.
have a Macbook Air with Office for Mac 2011 installed.  Recently I started getting messages about needing to rebuild my "database utility", which I did---repeatedly. When that didn't work, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office. Now when I try and open Outlook, I get a message saying "This identity can not be opened with this version of Outlook".

Can anyone give me advice on this question?

Thanks in advance
I cannot open my Outlook version for Mac. I keep getting the following messages:
1) Upgrade Office database
2) Rebuild database utility
3) Identity is older than this version of outlook.
4)It will not allow be to rebuild it reads "done" Help is really needed.
5) I just purchased the new license for my desktop MAC. I synced my laptop MAC to the new desktop MAC than realize that I could not open my Word,PPT, Excel. Never used Outlook on my laptop.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

When I tried to start Outlook this morning I got the message that there was a problem with the Office database and it needed to be rebuilt.  The database utility says it can't be rebuilt.  I can change identities and Outlook will open but I have no emails, contacts or calendar.  I've tried everything on the MS website but nothing works.

We have a user whose main identity database is corrupt, and the database utility just hangs with no progress, even left running overnight.

The disc itself checked out clean, but it appears the identity is beyond repair.

Is there any way to salvage some of the mail stored locally  in that identity?

We use Exchange, but have pretty strict size limits, resulting in most folks saving mail locally.

There was a recent Time Machine backup (though I'm not sure if that database is corrupt), but we're getting a "you don't have access" error when I try to restore it, so I can't test it.

Thanks in advance for your advice!
