Ron - I am having a similar problem with email being deleted from my phone .  My cable company talked me through the same directions you shared to check the box to 'delete from server when deleted from deleted items' - and then every time I close Windows Live Mail and reopen the program that same box no longer has a check mark in it.  So every time I open my email on my laptop every email is deleted from my new cell phone.  any other suggestions on how to make it stick??  Thanks for any help you can provide.

Split from an old thread

Hello, I hope someone can help me. I am setting up email for my mother  using outlook.com and a desktop client. This used to be a 10 minute process, but no  longer:

Problem: Email keeps getting blocked bc two step verification requires a non existent cell phone.  I considered using the landline phone, but that will never work, because when the phone rings, she will never be able to figure out what to do with the code.

Background:
After spending an entire day trying to connect my mother's new Outlook.com account with Outlook 2010, (btw don't bother with hotmail connector or trying to do it by configuring for mapi or pop support, bc none of these work. You can receive email but not send it.)

We had to revert to connecting outlook.com with the discontinued Windows Live email client. They connected properly, and it worked fine for the first few emails, but the next day when I logged on and attempted to send an email, it said the outlook.com account was temporarily blocked and made me do a captcha. Then it said a captcha isn't enough you have to use two step verification by adding an extra email account and cell phone number to the account.

Well the extra email account had already been added, but outlook.com has decided to ignore that, and  my 80 year old mother does not and never will have a cell phone, and she certainly doesn't know what  verification app is, nor (rightly so) does she care to find out.

First Question: Why does Microsoft assume that everyone that matters is under 30?
Second Question: We need an alternative to two step verification. Requiring everyone who uses email to have a cell phone is just plain stupid. Surely the kids who run Microsoft could think of a better security protocol than that. (Two step verification is one of the reasons I have given up on using Gmail as well.)

I followed the links from Outlook.com help (so cleverly buried in the hidden settings menu it took 15 minutes to find)  to sign in to contact Microsoft, but that is a dead end.
I also cycled endlessly through this maze of forums, and found nothing relating to this problem.
Is there an alternative to two step verification or do we just need to forget using outlook.com?

My mother needs an email provider that can be used in Outlook 2010 or Windows live client
Using Windows 7 64 sp 1 Office 2010 Windows Live 2012
Thank you for any help you can provide.

I have no cell phone so cannot receive text message, so how do I forward an email?

Hello

When I went to set my preferences, it asks for a cell phone number to send me a verification text.

I don't text, nor own a cell phone. I'm not techn savvy nor am I into all the technology.....I'm a senior

trying to set up an email account that allows me to forward things to my friends and family. I barely

email, and Im definate not into texting.

There should be another way for verification. I don't understand why FORWARDING an email is being

made into a production.  Thank you

How do I delete email messages from my cell phone (galaxy4) but keep them on my decktop computer?

I just posted a question about not being able to validate my account, because I do not own a cell phone.

Someone at Microsoft (live.com) must have seen and activated manually, as I can not reply/send.  Though no response was given.

But, when I try to set 'email forwarding' it says I need to validate my account, which I cannot do without a cell phone.

Please advise.
How can I validate my live.com account without a cell phone?  I do not own one.
