The reason I ask is to determine if it would solve my Windows Movie Maker problem: preview pane (monitor) remains black despite dragging images onto the Timeline, and nothing can be saved to my computer.  There's an error message that the source no longer exists or there isn't enough disk space (there is plenty) and another thing which I've forgotten.  Someone kindly suggested Pstory, but I can't persuade it to work despite having studied the tutorials.  Pstory won't allow me to make a video more than a minute long despite a three minute soundtrack.  I've given up on it.  My guess is that the only option I have is to purchase a movie maker compatible with Windows XP if they exist.  If they do, what are they?  Thank you.
Sincerely,
Kestal Phillips

I have an issue when saving a movie in Windows Movie maker.  I hear static or screeching in the background. Only in the saved version - saving to High Definition playback 1080.

I have to transfer the file to my Desktop running Windows 7  to save without the annoying background noise. Tried everything I could think of from uninstalling to re-installing to turning off the Laptop Microphone while it saves. Still the same problem.  Works perfect on my desktop running Windows 7.

I have no audio issues either when I play music or listen to audio online. Only when I save a project and then play that project from windows Movie Maker. No sound distortion when I am building the video. I've transferred a saved movie to my desktop and it plays static same as on the laptop so it is not a speaker issue. The movie actually "saves" with the static in the background.

Very frustrating.

If this helps here is what I found in the Detail under properties of two exact videos, one saved on my Laptop in Windows 8.1 and the other saved in Windows 7 using Windows Movie Maker 2012 version on both:

Static distorted saved version from windows 8.1:

Video:
Date rate 20147kbps
Total bitrate 20248kbps
Frame Rate 29 frames/seconds

Audio:
Bit rate 100kbps
Channels 2
Audio sample rate 48 kHz

Good Version from windows 7 no distortion in background:

Video:
Date rate 20785kbps
Total bitrate 20886kbps
Frame Rate 29 frames/seconds

Audio:
Bit rate 101kbps
Channels 2
Audio sample rate 48 kHz

Will Windows Movie Maker or any other software that is on a usual Windows 7 computer make a DVD

made up of JPEG still pictures and MPEG4 videos that will work on one of the normal DVD players to be

shown on a TV?  The DVDs I've made so far leave out all the MPEG4 videos.  These mixed files show

perfectly but only on the computer screen and I would like to be able to see them on a regular TV.

Greetings friends.
I recently upgraded to Windows 7 (I know, I am behind the times) and hence, downloaded the updated version of Windows Movie Maker.
After I finish editing a video, I then attempt to publish the video.
I have tried to publish the video to youtube or my computer and it seems to go well, but when I watch the uploaded video on youtube or my computer there is no video, just the audio.
I downloaded the live upload to youtube plug-in, but it has not helped.
I generally use the recommended resolution settings for my videos, but I have also tried every other resolution setting but it does not change anything.
I can preview the video just fine in movie maker, the video only disappears after publishing or saving.
I am fairly well acquainted with the Vista version of Movie Maker, and never had problems like this.
I am severely confused and my brain will surely detonate at any moment.

I plead for assistance.
I do not want to lose my brain.

Hello. Im trying to record a video where i need to speak. My sound and mic are 100% OK and im not using any external audio/video clip in my video. All im doing is adding images and titles and then i comment on them. The problem is, after i record and click stop, the sound of my PC completely shuts down. Not only on movie maker, i really have no sound at all. But, if i restart, i can hear what i just recorded and its all fine. the problem is, its a bit hard to work like this. i have to restart everytime i record a new audio file. What can i do ?

Edit: im using windows 8

I've been working with Windows movie maker version 2011 lately for my school projects and applications for scholarships and universities. The first time, I worked with windows movie maker I was using my friend's computer the version was older than mine and while we were editing the video, the video was freezing. Once we saved the entire project we thought the freezing would stop once we had saved our project, but unfortunately it saved with all the freezing spots. Today, I'm working with another project with my computer and it's doing the same thing. How can I fix this? I've seen this problem all over the internet and no matter what version you have it freezes up. I think it's time for windows to do something about it

I need help editing home movies with Movie Maker.

I used Movie Maker to import home video from a DVD.  It created .VOB files which I want to edit.  However, when trying to play the files in Movie Maker, the video is black even though the audio is intact.

I'm using Windows Movie Maker Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3508.0205) although I also tried version 2011.

OS:           Windows 8  (6.02.9200) (x64)
DirectX:      9.0c + 10 + 10.1 + 11
CPU name:     Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz
CPU speed:    2394 MHz
Memory:       4096 MB
Screen size:  1366x768 (32bits) (60Hz)
Video card:   Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
              VendorID: 8086, DeviceID: 0416
Video driver: igdumdim64 (Version 10.18.10.3345) (10-31-2013)
Audio device: Intel(R) Display Audio
Audio driver: IntcDAud.sys (Version 6.16.0.3106) (1-11-2013)

I do not belive my system supports switchable graphics.  I tried running the FixIt tool and it did not detect any errors.  I am able to play the .VOB file with PowerDVD 10.0.5108.52.
