44 days ago, I upgraded to Windows Live Mail 2011 (which is copyrighted 2010?) and I can say I'm happy with it. But I want to go further. Where can I find Windows Live Mail 2012 or newer, or Windows (Live) Essentials 2012 (or newer) and just decline everything but Mail? I searched the Microsoft Download Center with no luck.

I am having a problem.  We recently upgraded from POP to IMAP service.  The speed of receiving emails and syncing with Windows Live Mail running on Windows 7 decreased dramatically.  I have concluded the problem is specific to Windows Live Mail based on the effects observed and noted below.  Here are all the devices & software we are using and how they were affected after the changed to IMAP.

  • Windows Live Mail + IMAP account = slow as molasses on a cold January day
  • Apple Mail =  same as before the change from POP to IMAP; fast
  • iPhone Mail = fast
  • WebMail for the IMAP service (on various machines & browsers) = no change; fast
  • Windows Live Mail running on the same machine + a 2nd email account which is POP = same as before the change; fast

This is very frustrating.  Does anyone have a solution he/she can share?  (P.S. My Windows software is up to date).

thanks in advance.

I cannot open any of my mail in windows live mail, windows 7 nor my g-mail, but I can open it under my server cox.  I can forward the mail and can read what it says but cannot open in regular mode.  I cannot access my addresses either.  I did receive one e-mail that  I was able to open, but new e-mails today do not open.  I did a restore, I closed down computer and unplugged it, and disconnected my internet server,  I did a disk cleanup defragmentation and ran malware.  Can anyone help??

My laptop uses Windows 7 and has suddenly stopped me sending attachments with my Windows Live Mail e-mails and keeps saying that it is a MAPI problem.  How on earth do I sort this problem out.
Thanks, Richard, London, England

My computer has quit working so I started working on my husbands computer.  Up until I touched his computer he had been using Windows Live Mail to send and receive emails.  He did not sign into WLM, he just always clicked cancel.

I was trying to use Windows Live Writer to write a blog post and I could not get it to work.  I message came up saying it might have installed wrong to try and reinstall it.  I clicked okay and it downloaded or installed or something (Windows Essentials I think).

Ever since then his Windows Live Mail will not work with our roadrunner account.  I called roadrunner and check the incoming and outgoing servers.  I had everything set up as they said I should.

I cannot get his email to work.   I don't know what to do.

I keep getting The connection to the server has failed.

Someone please help.  Is it a windows problem or a roadrunner problem?  He's mad I screwed up his email!  I've called Microsoft and spoke to two people who told me I needed to do online chat.  I chatted with two people and no one could help me.

(And I still can't get Windows Live Writer to work either.  uggggg. Won't connect to my blog).

I am using Microsoft Outlook 2007 and emailing an excel spreadsheet and a one page pdf file.  Anyone who uses Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail is unable to receive the attachment.

I have checked with my email service provider and their system shows that the email goes through their firewall and virus software and is delivered with the attachment, but the recipient does not get the attachment.  they can't even see the attachments at all.

Since I use Windows Mail at home I tested this.  I unchecked the "Don't allow attachments" box and still could not receive the attachments.   All attachments are either .xlsx, .xls or .pdf files.  Two weeks ago I could get the attachments at my home email and had no problem accessing them.   As of last week I have had probably 25 people who use Windows live or Windows mail tell me there is nothing attached to my email.

What happened?  and how do we fix?   Again, the box is unchecked to allow all attachments to come through and this is not working.

I have been using Windows Live Mail 2012 (Build 16.4.3505.0912) for over a year at least. I am a Time/Warner Road Runner customer and I use Live Mail in conjunction with the T/W mail server. Last night I discovered that I was not able to send mail from my Live Mail (WLM) program to the Time/Warner mail SMTP server (TWC). I am however able to receive mail from the TWC POP3 server.  I am running Windows 7 Home Premium with Service Pack 1.

I have verified with Time/Warner tech support that my mail settings are correct.

I can send mail from my web based mail box to my WLM desktop application and any mail that comes to my e-mail address *** Email address is removed for privacy *** is forwarded to WLM. However when I try and send mail from WLM to the SMTP server I get the following error message

The message could not be sent. The setting for your outgoing email [SMTP] server might need to be configured. To find the server settings for '*** Email address is removed for privacy ***', please contact your email service provider.

TWC tech support believes that, from their end, all settings are correct. We even tried an alternating SMTP server and port:
mail.twc.com and port  587.

I have tried a number of suggestions from this forum without success.
