I am running windows 7 with MSN and the McAfee Antivirus provided with MSN.

Recently I have been receiving a pop-up balloon to update "Windows Essentials", the balloon has a wrench and an "X" in the upper right corner. So far, I have just been closing this balloon without doing the update.

How can I tell what this update is for?  Windows essentials is apparently installed on my laptop, but I do not know if it is really running or what it does.  I tried to determine what Windows essentials is and it seems to have many parts so I do not know if I need this update.  If needed, why would it not be included with the usual Microsoft updates?

I thought it might be for the Security Essentials, but since I am running McAfee, I do not need or want the Microsoft Security Essentials.

How do I determine what this update is and if I need it?

This question submission page is requiring that I select a Product and Topic within Windows Essentials - the only thing I know I use is Windows Live Mail, so I am just selecting this in order to get my question in front of someone.

Thanks.

I have a very strict IT department and I need the photo gallery that comes with Windows Essentials.  The IT guys want to know how big the installation size of the application is.  If anyone knows, what is the application size for all of Windows Essentials, and also what is the minimum if I just install only the things required to run Photo gallery?

I've looked all over this website and all over the internet for an answer to this question.  Oddly I can't find it.  Please help.  I'd do the install myself but my work PC is locked down and I don't us Windows OS at home.

Thanks in Advance!

Why does my Windows Movie Maker disable the sound on my computer?

Note:

I've asked this question twice. I have not gotten a satisfactory answer. I cannot upload my log files. I persistently get a time out.

I've repaired my Windows Essentials.

If I do not get an answer to this question I will put it in a regular mail question to the CEO of Microsoft.
The last couple of days I can not send email - receive the error in the subject.  I receive email just fine.
The last email I sent successfully was on 02/06/2014 - never had problem previously.

I am running Windows 7
Tried removing and adding my hotmail account in WLM - no help.
Tried repairing windows essentials - no help.

I received and many windows updates on 02/14/2014, including a windows outlook 2010 update.  My guess is that one of these updates screwed something up.

Any ideas what to do?

Thanks

UPDATE - just discovered that manually typing in the email address and forcing it to not use the contact info, then the email can be sent.
Not sure why using the same email address from the contact list fails.
I looked at Tutorials and I guess I am missing something. I have Windows 8 and cannot figure out how to get to my basic programs such as Write and such. Also I downloaded Windows Movie Maker which was included in Windows Essentials and can't find it. If I could find my programs it might be there. Help! Speak to me as if I have half a brain.

I am using vista 32 bit service pack 2. I had uninstalled windows live essentials and checked windows photo gallery but it did not uninstall. I tried to re download WLEssentials but it said it was no longer downloading on vista. I hate WPGallery. I just want my pictures back. It is difficult to share. I did not have a password for administrator rights when installed so I don't know how to get rid of it. There has to be someway. PLEASE help me with this matter. I am baffled at this point. The rest of windows essentials was uninstalled and photo gallery is not listed under programs and features. Plz respond.
Thank you in advance for your help.

After upgrading to Windows 8.1 several months ago, I finally got around to using Movie Maker (from Windows Essentials 2012 package) yesterday but I found that I cannot add any audio/music onto my project at all. The "Add Music" icon at the top of the "Home" row is shaded out, thus not allowing me to click it. When I try to import the audio file through the file menu, a pop-up says "Movie Maker doesn't support the selected file type." However, the audio file is a .mp3 and I have had no problem adding this particular file before I made the upgrade to Windows 8.1 several months ago.

If 8.1 does not support Windows Essentials 2012, will there be any plans of new Essentials package for 8.1 users?

Hi

I use Windows 7; Hotmail and have installed Windows essentials.

But, every time I open Windows Live Mail, I get the errors :  0x80048849 and/ or  0x80048820.

I have already checked the community/answers/FAQ and have uninstalled and reinstalled/ reconfigured the mail.

But, still getting the same (one of) the errors.

Please help.

I have Windows 8.1, Windows Essentials 2012, Windows Live Mail.

1.) Every time I try to send an email with a group address I have to go into Control Panel to repair the Windows Essential 2012.

2.) If I uninstall the Windows Essentials 2012 currently on my PC & then download Windows Essential 2012 from microsoft.com will I lose my Windows Live Mail & all the folders/messages/addresses?

3.) Why does updating Windows not also update Windows Essentials 2012 to eliminate this email problem?

Thank you.
