Hi all, for those of you still seeking a solution to movie maker crashing in windows 8 with the message 'movie maker stopped working'  or similar, I looked here and had no joy but I found the solution on a youtube video. It is a compatibility issue folks so for those of you still unable to do any editing or even start the program do a search on the charm bar for movie maker, then right click and select 'open file location' you should now have have a list of program's on the start menu, find the movie maker icon and right click and select properties, click compatibility. You will probably have to tick the box marked compatibility mode and then select the drop-down menu, mine was running in xp service pack3 mode (that's wrong) try selecting vista service pack2 (that worked for me) click apply then click ok. Now try movie maker and the problem shoud disappear. If not then you could try a different compatibility mode but this is what worked for me in windows 8 . (Not windows 8.1)  good luck and I hope this helps somebody else.

I use Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

The Movie maker keeps crashing continuously. While I play a slide show of my pictures, after a few minutes I receive an error which says

APPCRASH>Windows Live Movie Maker; Fault Module Name: igd10umd32.dll

Please help in this regard.

A few years ago I made some videos for fun with Windows Live Movie Maker on my old win7 computer. I've graduated and am currently going to college, so we bought another computer, also windows 7, and I found that this machine has regular Movie Maker installed. It looks just like Live movie maker to me, only the program won't accept the audio or video in my live movie maker files. It isn't because I don't have the clips that I'm using; I've made sure my files are connected, but it seems to still be incompatible. Please help me resolve this problem so I don't spend endless hours going back through old film.

I have Movie Maker for Windows 7 & when I go to save it just hangs at the save status bar icon, but the bar does not move. It's also greyed out. My project is just JPEGS ( 6 in total, all around 100-200 kbs each) with a few effects added (like fading from frame to frame) & a 5.20min piece of music. Can someone please help? I need to release this as a YouTube video to coincide with an album release & it's coming up fast!!!

I imported a movie from a cd that plays well on media player to practice editing it on moviemaker, but the scenes played very choppy. How can I fix this? The sound and audio were both choppy.  thanks

Hi all,

when I upload my avi video clip to Movie Maker, the first few seconds of the movie are dark.

I can see and hear the person in the video but it's all dark and then after a few seconds it's all fine and you can see the video clear.

No problems with the sound, even when the video is initially dark.

I have installed Windows essentials and I have the latest versions.

Would appreciate your help in fixing this issue asap as I was in the process of editing the movie.

Thanks in advance,

Becky

It gives me an error message saying that I need to check my system specs but they are all up to the requirements. The problem started the second I deleted photo gallery. I recently purchased a drawing tablet as well but I don't think that that would interfere.

I'm unsure of what to do and I need to get movie maker working again. I tried reinstalling windows essentials since that is the only thing that I can find. I am hesitant to delete movie maker since I cannot find a copy anywhere.

Please help.

Since I updated Windows Essentials about a week ago, movie maker will not work right. It pauses randomly between clips, but it shows that it's still playing. So I have to exit out of it and start it up again. Then after having to do that a few times, it stops working all together (usually when I try to edit a clip or the music). And sometimes it even freezes my entire laptop, causing me to have to shut it down and reboot, losing all the work I just did. It worked fine before the update, and I can't pinpoint whats exactly wrong. The files that I'm using are all wmv and the music is in wav.
