I've used the Google Authenticator app to set up two-step verification for my Outlook.com email account. Everything works fine. However, I'm wondering what I will do if I ever lose my phone. Pretty much every other service that uses two-step verification provides a backup code during enrollment which can be used in case of a lost phone or other emergency. Does Microsoft offer this? If not, what is the contingency plan in case of a lost phone or lack of access to the authentication app?
