Windows Live Mail FAQ

I’m getting a 550 Relay no relay permitted error when sending to a live.co.uk address. Why?

Sending emails to a live.co.uk address and I get a 550 Relay Not Permitted error. Why might this happen?

When testing the account settings, it establishes a connection, finds both the incoming and outgoing mailservers, logs onto the incoming mailserver, but fails when trying to send the test email message.

Any thoughts gratefully received

delete your old security info

Hi there,
I'm hoping someone can help.
I receive the following message when accessing 'security info' in my 'account settings'.
"We have a waiting period for the updates to take effect. On 23/10/2013, we'll delete your old security info:
Once this has been deleted, you'll be able to verify your account with info you have access to. If you didn't make the updates, or if you still have access to the above info, cancel the updates."
As far as I am aware I have not asked to delete my old security info. When I click 'cancel updates' and follow the instructions to receive a verification code (to be sent to my current account - and with no options for an alternative) it does not arrive.
Also, I am getting a message telling me that emails are being sent to my POP folder, yet this is empty.
I am confused as to what is happening and am concerned that I will lose access to my account.
Any help would be gratefully received.
Many thanks.

Why am I not receiving email?

04. October 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: account settings, Lottery winning numbers, spam email
All of a sudden I am not receiving my regular emails such as Target prescription ready, Starbucks rewards earned, Lottery winning numbers, Persmart emails and I have not changed any of my account settings on those web sites. They are all set to receive email from them. And YES, I always check my spam folder, every single day.

I also want to recover my folders from a previous address that was shut when I was NOT sending spam email, someone else was doing that and I reported it and instead of investigating, my account was closed and all my important folders with it.

why would my account settings blank? does it have anything to do with this SkyDrive thing that I don’t have?

I found out that I am another person who got hit with that AMMYY scam(didn't give them any money, thank goodness) so I thought I'd check my Profile and account settings and found it blank. I also wanted to change my password for OUTLOOK.com and thought that is where I could do it. is there a different way to do it? Oh ya, I've been a member here for some time now and I don't understand this whole OUTLOOK.COM,SkyDrive. This site wasn't like this the last time I was on here so what's going on?

Microsoft account security code takes too long to be delivered to alternate e-mail address

02. October 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: account settings, Microsoft account security code, security code
When I try to change certain account settings on my outlook.com account, it requires a security code, but the e-mail containing that code arrives sometimes 30 minutes later (never immediately) - so when I use the code, it does not work (I guess it has expired).

What can I do?

Any help greatly appreciated.

I cannot add my personal email accounts to Outlook.com.

I cannot add my personal email accounts to Outlook.com. I had added them previously, then deleted. Now I am trying to go back and add them but I am getting various errors, depending on where I look.  On the my "Your email accounts" page it is saying "This account cannot currently receive email. Click Details for more info."  When I click details it says:
  • You can send email from this account.
  • 12:47 PM We couldn't get your messages: There was a problem connecting to the other server. If you've been seeing this message for a while, consider checking your account settings or contacting your other email service.

When I click on edit I get this error "We're sorry, but we are upgrading our system and you cannot add or edit your account. Please try again in a few hours." I have gotten these same errors for three days. I have confirmed with Time Warner Cable (twc.com) what my email settings are (i.e. server addressese, ports, no secure connection needed, etc.).

How do I set up android Outlook.com app for my work exchange account. I get an error message when trying to add account in settings.

    25. September 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: account settings, error message, exchange address, work exchange account
I am looking for how to use the android app for my work's exchange address.  I tried adding the exchange directly in the app settings/setup and I get an error message when trying to set up anything except a microsoft based account.  The only account I have set up so far is my "live.com" account which I have never used for email, only to log in to microsoft websites.
I see that for gmail there is a way to forward from their native account settings, but I do not have the ability to change any settings with my exchange acount.
Is an "outlook.com" account somehow different than a "live.com" account?  Do I need to set up an "outlook.com" account in order to do this?

Custom domain using Outlook.com – Send & Receive or Send As settings not working per my described configuration

    23. September 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: account settings, custom domain

    I have a custom domain that I have configured to use Microsoft's Outlook.com / Hotmail.com e-mail services.

My main issues include the Send & Receive from another email account and the Send As another account features.

       The set-up...

I have two email addresses associated with my custom domain. These addresses are (using examples only)

*** Email address is removed for privacy ***  and  *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

I want to be able to check and respond to *** Email address is removed for privacy ***  messages when I am logged into *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

I have already configured *** Email address is removed for privacy *** to forward to *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

My problem is that I am unable to configure *** Email address is removed for privacy *** to send messages as *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

I am also unable to configure *** Email address is removed for privacy *** to Send & Receive messages (via POP) from *** Email address is removed for privacy *** within the account settings.

Is this a bug that has not been fixed, or do I not have something configured correctly in my Domain Records?

Or, am I not using the correct POP3 & SMTP servers in order to make this configuration work properly?

Unable to send or receive mail in Outlook since 14.3.7 upgrade

    22. September 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Outlook for Mac · Tags: account settings, DNS settings, Microsoft for MAC, Outlook
I upgraded microsoft for mac 2011 to version 14.3.7 this morning, and ever since I have been unable to send or receive email in Outlook. Has anyone had this problem?  It's really frustrating as these are my business email accounts.

This is the error I receive:

Outlook cannot find the server. Verify the server information is entered correctly in the Account Settings, and that your DNS settings in the Network
pane of System Preferences are correct.

All account settings are correct and have not changed.

I have another Outlook question.  I have multiple email accounts and they all display as one in my inbox.  It gets confusing as to which 'inbox' the email was sent too.  Any ideas on how I can set up to display the names of the inboxes separately so I know which one mail is for?

    Appreciate any advice.

    Thanks
