I have the same problem - 950 folders 18,000 mails.

 1) You cannot drag a folder from Storage Folders>Imported Folders>local Folders>(FolderName) to a POP account's folder list. The mouse pointer indicates that you can (no "Stop" sign appearing on the mouse pointer). After the "drop" nothing happens. Using the toolbar "Copy to" icon results in an error "Cannot transfer folders between servers". Inconsistency here.  Local Folders are a "server" ????

 2) Duplicates, duplicates.

Using Win Explorer to check the files on disk and set up new  folder C:\(user)\Mail

In WLM change the mail store to the new folder.

Close WLM, files are transferred. Reopen WLM.

Check the disk appdata\local\microsoft\WLM - mail storage files still there.

Check new location   C:\(user)\Mail - ok  but files there as well.

As an experiment to see how WLM recovers idexes and mails -  Shut down WLM first.

Remove index control files (2 of them) from the disk using Windows Explorer, restart WLM. It recovers   mails and indexes - ok

Mails now in Storage folders> Recovered>etc>etc>etc, this includes Mail accounts and their folders       too.

None however go back to their original locations which might be folders under a POP account.

Check the disk - Another set of duplicates appears in  C:\(user)\Mail the originals + folders duplicated, suffixed by (1) in the folder name, created by the recovery process.

  3) There is no simple mechanism to rebuild the entire folder structure from scratch by using the files in the mail folder on the disk.

In Outlook Express all you had to do was delete Folders.dbx, restart OE and the folder list was rebuilt.

OK you didn't have separate accounts (except identities of course), but it worked, every time.

Is it possible to do something with Item 1 above ? Drag and drop folders from Storage Folders to an account folder would make our lives so much easier. Item 2 needs clarification or addressing. Addressing Item 3 is essential and should have been built in at the design stage.

Sorry this post is so long, I hope it makes sense too.

WLM opened and retrieved e-mails yesterday morning.  It then stopped responding and closed.  When I tried to restart Windows Live Mail the first error message box says "recovering windows mail storage database." Windows then tries to start Mail again and says "windows is checking for a solution to the problem."  The final error message is "windows live mail has stopped working.  A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.  Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  The only option box is "close program."

I have tried the following:
Restarting the computer
Repairing Windows Live Mail then restarting the computer
Reinstalling Windows Essentials then restarting the computer
Full virus scan - _INS5176._mp quarantined
Performance tune-up
Recovering from back-up - couldn't do it as it tries to open WLM as the first stage in the recovery from back-up (and it looks like all the e-mails are safely in appdata\local\microsoft\windowslivemail - just that I can't open WLM).

Anything else I could do? Thanks.

Update 24 July 2013: Saw the advice to create another user account to test if WLM would work on my computer for another user.  It does.

I'm using Windows Live Mail for my e-mail account, but WLM can not do send and receive recently. First it was executing "Updating calendar" countinuously, but now do not go to "updating calendar" but after some seconds one error appears as:

Server error: 3204

Server: https://mail.services.live.com/DeltaSync_v2.0.0/Sync.aspx

Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x8DE20003

What should I do?

I am having exactly the same problem with WLM 2012 contact category e-mail messages containing zero contacts--like has been so well documented here.  It is now July 2013 and many of these messages are from 2012.  Can anyone quickly point me to the solution to this problem?  Thank you in advance!
I'm using WLM Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3555.0308) for Vista. When I try to print German characters (ä, ü etc) in emails I have sent, I get nonsense strings printed instead (Ã ¼ , for example, instead of ü). I do not get this problem with any other software, only WLM. My settings for Sent Mail are Western European ISO.

WLM  has just started showing a pop up saying it is resetting flags in WLM [on XP]. I do not use flags. Can I turn of  this function?

I'm having the same problem but with some twists. I have photos in Picasa that up to about a week ago I could send anywhere by WLM but that has now stopped.  I select the photo....click "e-mail" and they go into an e-mail just like always but will not send.

This is what I get from WLM:

0 Delete the photo email, create a new one and try to send again.

Sever 'mail.intelos.net'

Windows Live Mail error ID 0x8CCC0002

Protocol SMTP

Port 25

Secure (SSL) no

0 The message could not be sent because it could not be split into smaller parts.

Now, The same message but with the WLM error ID 080042OCA  was repeated 66 times in it.  SIXTY SIX TIMES!  And there are only 36 pictures in the group.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium.  I have checked with Comcast and all settings to and from the Server are correct.  I have run the Windows repair for WLM, scanned the computer for viruses, etc., but still get the error message.  E-mails are going into my Comcast.net account, but not coming over into WLM.  Have also tried selecting and deselecting the "work offline" option.  No luck.  What's next???  Thanks.

I have now provided a copy of the error message I receive.
