I am using WMM 2012 version 16.4.3528.0332 with Windows 7.

I have been editing a video over the past few days in WMM. I'm using MP4 files. Everything (audio and video) has been working fine, though I have lost all sound a few times in WMM while in the middle of editing functions, but have been able to restore the sound by closing and restarting WMM. Now I have suddenly lost all sound (including original video audio as well as music tracks I have added that previously worked fine) and restarting the program does not restore any sound to the video project.

All other sound on the PC works fine, such as Windows Media Player, ITunes, etc. The disappearance of all audio is only occurring in WMM. The music files I have added to the video project, as well the audio indicators on the original video clips are showing up on the video timeline just as they did when I had full audio on the project. I have checked all audio and music volume controls in the WMM program and on the PC itself and nothing has changed to cause the loss of all project audio.

How do I restore the audio to WMM so I can complete my editing project?

I spent over 5 hours making this video project for school, but now it won't open because the file is "corrupt", and my project is due tomorrow.

I sent the file to Microsoft Support but have received no response from them, despite the fact that they promised one in 24 hours.

Yes, I have updated to the latest version of Windows Essentials.

Could anyone help me fix this file? (Removed for privacy)

I created a video and I added two separate clips to make one video.  The first part of video does not appear.  I can see video clips on movie but when I press play a black screen with no video and no sound appears.  The second part of the video will play the video.  I added screens before and at end of videos to create credits and such.  I also added at first part of video the video stabilization - anti-shake and wobble to video.  I noticed it is not on second part of video.

I have windows 8 and this is my first video project I have created.

Can anyone please suggest how to correct this problem??

Thanks for any assistance!!

I've been using WMM to shoot and edit my movies for months now. In fact, I just shot and edited a movie yesterday. No problems. Audio and video were fine, nothing out of the ordinary.

Later in the evening, I tried to go back and edit another video, and....no audio. At all. I played the individual clips comprising the movie in other programs - WMP and VLC - and the audio was just fine. In fact, in Movie Maker, the little sound wave indicators in each audio clip still appear, but no sound comes out for any of them. I even reopened the video project I had just completed THE SAME DAY, and it didn't play audio.

No system updates were made - to my knowledge - and I didn't download a single thing between the time it was working and when it stopped working. This happened before, but it was only when I had Adobe Premiere open at the same time, and all it took was me closing both programs and reopening WMM.

Thoughts? Help please?

In moviemaker, I was able to take a snapshot of a video clip that I'd like to use in a print publication.  How do I access the .png file or save it as a .jpg or whatever I need to do to save the image apart from the video project?

[Moved from feedback]

As the title implies my problem is that every time I try to save a video project created with WLMM / WMM, during the save process my Computer shuts down totally.

I started using Windows Live Movie Maker Version 2011 (Build 15.4.3538.0513) about one week ago to create a simple slide show video comprising 11 photos in jpg-format (only 1.5 MB in total - for all 11 photos!) plus intro & outro and backing music (3.2 MB, wma-format). Creating the Project presented no problems - and is quite fun!  However every time I tried to save the video with the recommended (i.e. high quality) settings my Computer shut down! The shut down can happen at any progress point - even at 99% several times!

The only success I had in saving the Project was to save it in the "For Computer" setting (resulting file size 66.4 MB), however the much lower quality is simply not satisfactory!

Today (Monday 19th August 2013) I downloaded Windows Movie Maker Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3508.0205) but the Computer shut down problem is still there.

I am using Windows 7 Professional on a Toshiba Satellite PRO L770-12R Notebook with 8 GB RAM, Intel Core i5-2430 CPU @ 2.4GHz Processor, NVIDIA Geforce GT 525M Graphic Card, 698 GB hard disk space (219 of 349 GB free on C: and 335 of 349 GB free on D:), DirectX 10, 64 Bit.

I enjoy creating Projects using WMM and it offers exactly the features I need at this time but if I cannot save the video it makes no sense using the program further! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
