I am running Windows 8 and have been using Windows Life Mail since last fall.  When I opened WLM today there was nothing in my Inbox and all of my Storage Folders are gone.

I need them back.

What should I do?

I have been using Windows Live Mail for several years and had numerous storage folders created within Windows Live Mail. The storage folders were labeled and any important emails I was able to transfer to the appropriate storage folder. All those storage folders recently vanished. Any ideas on what happened and  on how they can be retrieved or found?

Thanks

FDoyle

If my computer crashes, do I lose everything in storage folders in my email account?

A friend recently called me in to help him resolve an ongoing problem with the folder structures in Windows Live Mail. I first looked at this a few weeks ago when he thought he’d lost all messages and we discovered them in the Storage Folders\Recovered Items folder. Why, puzzles us, but he was happy to leave them there.

Today there are, additionally, Storage Folders (1) and Storage Folders (2) and within these there are multiple levels of Recovered Items and Storage Folders, see this photo of C:\Users\Mick\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail:

One of the Inboxes is receiving new messages but old messages are duplicated all over the structure, many are readable, some get an error like: “The file [...] could not be opened because it does not exist or is being used by another application. (0x800C013E)”

How do we get out of this mess, and how do we prevent it reoccurring?

N.B. It is a POP3 email account and, although there are folders named POP3.ukonline.., he moved on from ukonline a couple of years ago to zen.co.uk.

Many thanks.

Hi all

Apologies if this question has been asked loads of times already, but I can't see a response in this forum that exactly matches my query.

I am being forced to bite the bullet and switch from my trusty XP machine to a shiny new Win 8 machine. I use Windows Live Mail (V 2009, build 14.0.8089.0726), and I have a lot of mail in Storage Folders that I want to switch across. I have an external hard drive so the plan is to export the storage folders (inc contents) to that, and import them onto the new machine. What do I have to do to make that work ? I don't yet have the new PC, I'm just trying to ensure I know how to do it and can  export the data correctly before struggling with the new world (to me) of Win 8.

I'm not fussed about the folders in each of the email accounts because these are all on the email provider's servers and will sync when I create the new accounts on the new machine. The issue is with the local storage folders. I think I've exported the folders & contents, using WLM's File>Export>messages and using the WLM export format.

What I'm not sure about is whether I'm going to be able to import that into the Win 8 Mail app. I'd been assuming that would be easy, but skimming this forum seems to suggest that Win 8 is somehow different and it's going to be a lot of faff. Can't actually try it and see 'cos I don't have a new machine yet, just ensuring I know the procedure beforehand.

Also, when exporting Contacts, is it best to use the .vcf format or .csv ?

Thanks in advance

Hi ...I am aware of a post from Microsoft Moderator Leilani P. on November 15, 2012  regarding this issue. I have followed her advice up to the point of ; "Open the WLM Store folder." However, when I open the  'Storage Folder' and then open the 'Local Folder' the folder is empty.

I have not been able to locate my storage folders anywhere else on my C Drive. However, I do have the folders backed up to an external hard drive and so if no one can tell me how to locate my lost folders in my C Drive could someone perhaps assist in telling me how to transfer my storage files from my external hard drive back into Windows Live. Thanks very much , I would definitely appreciate any help offered!

Regards

Greer

I am attempting to transfer Windows Live Mail from my current system to a new PC. The old PC has Live Mail 2011, the new one has Live Mail 2012. I have many storage folders with several hundred messages in each. This is in addition to the sent mail folder, which has severl hundred more. I attempted to do a full export from my current system and this resulted in a incomplete export. Folders were missing and not all messages were exported out either.

Does anyone know what could be happening? Does anyone know what the proper procedure is for transfering mail from one computer to another?

Using Windows Live Mail. Currently set up to access two different email accounts. Have closed one account. Have moved all emails from the closed account to 'Storage Folders'. All the folders in the closed account are now empty. If I right click and Remove the closed account from WLM, does the closed account disappear from WLM and the moved emails stay in the Storage Folders? All ideas, suggestions, comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, K.

I'm switching from TWC to AT&T and using Windows 7 Live Mail.  I have set up a new gmail email account but don't want to lose all my old roadrunner emails I have in storage folders.

When I create a new folder in Storage Folders and populate it all the contents change to the same content as one of the messages. I finish up after a period with all messages in each folder being the same. How can I avoid losing so many of my stored messages?
