Transfer Storage Quota to Second Account

22. September 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: personal account, professional account
I have two SkyDrive accounts, one that I signed up with professionally, and one personal account.  Both accounts are "free".

My professional account has a 25 Gb Storage quota.  It was increased with an iPhone promotion that Microsoft supported.  My personal account has a 7 Gb storage quota.  I am no longer using my professional account and would like to know if there is any way to transfer the data limit to my personal account.

Any ideas?

Understanding Database Rebuild Process

19. September 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Outlook for Mac · Tags: John Smith, personal account
Within Outlook I see two accounts, my personal one and a shared "Support" account for my company. This latter one has more than 2000 folders and 150,000 messages in it; each of our customers has their own folder. Unfortunately, this means that all of these messages are synchronized on my Mac, which is a huge resource and disk space sink but we really don't see a better way to do it right now. It generally works OK, though I get the beachball every couple of minutes while this massive folder tree is resync'ed.

Yesterday, I got a database error and the message that the database needed to be rebuilt. 7 hours later it was done. Turns out the whole Support Tree had been replicated in a "Recovered Folders" folder under my personal account. So basically I now had two copies of these 2000+ folders and 150,000+ messages. So I "deleted" the new copies and now I'm emptying the Deleted Items folder, which is incredibly slow, 100 messages takes about 20 seconds... <groan>

My first question is, once this is done, should I rebuild again to compress the database down to a smaller size or is this done automatically by the database manager. (I know that every message is actually a file in a giant folder list and this space is recovered automatically by the OS. I"m more worried about the "index" file.)

Second question: In my "Documents \ Microsoft User Data \ Office 2011 Identities" folder, I now have two entries, one that says "John Smith" which is about 11GB and the other says "John Smith (Backed up 2013-09-19 02.52.27)", obviously the date and time when the database rebuild was completed, very early this morning. This one is about 22GB. Obviously I want to delete one of them to recover this space. The question is, how do I determine which one Outlook is actually using.

It would seem like the larger one is being used and I can delete the smaller one. However, it's also possible that the database rebuild process starts by making a copy before it rebuilds and perhaps the smaller one is actually production. Also, is the long unwieldy name now my "identity" or would the shorter name remain as the default identity?

I guess the question is, can I safely delete one of these and if so, which one? Also, if it's the longer one, can I change the name back to the shorter name, or doesn't it matter.

Can’t access some custom domain mailboxes

13. September 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: custom domain, mailboxes, personal account
I have a custom domain set up with five accounts/mailboxes: a "main" personal account, and four more, each of which I intend to use for a different purpose.  I have no problems accessing the "main" account, but I cannot log into any of the other mailboxes.  Each time I try, I get a screen titled "call us overprotective..." which asks for information and requires me to set up an alias to continue.  Why can't I log into these mailboxes?

Thanks!

Verifying Alias Email

26. August 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: Microsoft account, personal account

Hi, I tried to create a Microsoft Account for my work email, but then realized I had a personal Microsoft Account.

I deleted the new Microsoft account created with my work email, then tried to add my work email as an alias email to my peronal Microsoft Account.

I click verify, and when I click the link in the verify email it says there is a temporary problem try again later.

I believe my work email may be locked or unavailable because I created another account with it.

Is there a way to get my work email assigned to my personal Account as an Alias?

Thank you.

Stephen

Adding email account to Windows 8 Phone with domain hosted through Outlook.com doesn’t work!

25. August 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: Microsoft account, Outlook account, personal account, Windows Phone

I have two emails; one is "me"@outlook.com which is my personal account and my Microsoft Account login. This was easy to add to Windows phone and syncs without issues. My other account is "me2"@"mydomain".com. "Mydomain" is hosted through Outlook.com.

With my Windows 8 phone, I have tried adding as a Microsoft account, an Outlook account, a Hotmail account, and just "other account" by entering a number of different server names, etc.

Nothing works. I have an old domain hosted through Gmail which was easy to add and doesn't have any issues.

...And before someone tells me I should post in the Windows Phone forum....Already did, they said to post here. Also, my site is hosted through GoDaddy; I have other sites hosted through GoDaddy with email hosted through Gmail and I have no problems!

Thanks for your help!

locked out of hotmail twice in 1 month ???

You have locked me out of my personal Hotmail account (guyattpark@hotmail) for the second time in 2 months!!!

You requested I change my password which I did but I couldn't remember it easily and then you locked me out of the account and stuffed me around by getting me to set up a false alias or some stuff that isn't what I want! Plz email *** Email address is removed for privacy *** to resolve

I had this hotmail account for more than 10 years and it is my regulr personal account. As soon as your company changed password rules etc I have been caught out and your process is just too convoluted to be helpful! Make it easier for us old folks!!!

Custom Domain: can’t recieve emails

14. August 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: custom domain, email provider, personal account
Hi,

I recently created a custom domain, lets say example.com

I set it as Active, set the MX and TXT (spf trust) and create a few accounts, ex.: *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

I set to use Outlook.com as email provider.

I login to one of the accounts and test to send an email and the emails arrives.

Then from my personal account on Outlook.com try to send an email to the account on the custom domain but it never arrives.

Then i tried sent an email From Gmail to *** Email address is removed for privacy *** and never arrives.

Then i tried sent an email From *** Email address is removed for privacy *** to *** Email address is removed for privacy *** and never arrives.

What can be happening?

Best regards.

Colleague can no longer access shared folders/documents

07. August 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: colleague, personal account, work folders
I have a SkyDrive account for work where I have posted several documents in multiple folders. I shared these folders/documents with a colleague who has had access to them for years. She can no longer access the documents; however, she can see the folders--just can't see the documents to open them. The only thing that has changed is that I have purchasesd a Windows phone (Lumia 820) and created a new, personal account (live.com) using the SkyDrive app on my phone. I also linked my work account to my phone through IE. In order to access my work files from my phone, I had to share the work folders with myself, via my "live.com" user name. When I am in my work account, I can see that the folders and documents are shared with my colleague, but she can't seem to open them. Any suggestions??  Jan
