Beware when activating the free cloud storage given with Surface 2 / Surface Pro 2

07. November 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: microsoft, Microsoft account

When I setup my Surface 2 - an outstanding product btw), I accidently used my old Microsoft account.

(I have 2 accounts because accounts are bound to a country and you can never change the country.

But I moved out, I needed an account for the new country I lived in, so I opened a second account, which became my primary account)

Then I redeemed the 2 years 200GB free code on skydrive.com/surface

Unfortunately the site did not ask for which account I wanted to redeem the 200GB so it was put on my old account.

A few hours later while having trouble to set up Skype, I finally see that I used my old account while setting up the Surface 2.
Therefore I add my true primary account to the surface 2 as administrator, resetup everything and delete the old account from the Surface 2.

Then I discover that the 200GB subscription went to the old account.
I contacted Microsoft to change/transfer the free 2 year subscription to the new account - and I can think of many ways to make it happen - but Microsoft refused, told me to contact the department store where I bought the Surface 2, even when I told them that the code was in the Surface box and that it was independent of where a Surface is bought.

In short I find such lack of flexibility on the part of Microsoft extremely unfortunate, to say the least. I thought the cloud was all about agility and convenience.

So not being able to transfer the subscription, is there a technical workaround that would enable me somewhow to link both Skydrive accounts, so that I could use the space without having to constantly sign out/sign in?

Why I am not able to add another microsoft account in add alias option?

Hi All,

I am trying to add another microsoft account in the add alias option in Accounts settings where it asks for an existing account. On providing a hotmail account it says "This email id is already taken. Please try another one.", of course it is taken, that is why it is an existing account.

Please help me in adding another Microsoft account so that I don't waste time switching to accounts or using two different browsers at a time. :(

Passwords – microsoft account vs email address accounts

06. November 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: email account passwords, Microsoft account
Hi,

I have a Microsoft account, *** Email address is removed for privacy ***, with a password, accountpw.

I also have two email accounts - *** Email address is removed for privacy *** and *** Email address is removed for privacy ***.

AS I understand things, there should be  different passwords for the Microsoft account and for each of the email accounts.

My problem is this - I can get into the Microsoft account OK but I can not get access to the email accounts to get my email because I can not remember the passwords.

My question is this - how can I reset my email account passwords without knowing the existing passwords? I can not even find the place on the web where I can modify my email address data.

Thanks

Microsoft account issue

I recently created a live.com email address (*** Email address is removed for privacy ***) to set up a Microsoft Account for my new Nokia Lumia mobile phone.  However, I accidentally added the days date into the DOB tab instead of my DOB (29th Sept 1967).  It is now asking me get my email address verified by an adult before I can access the account.

Without undertaking this parental verification step, I am unable to get into the account settings in order to modify my DOB details on the account or delete the account.  My phone has automatically used this email address in my Microsoft Account and as I cannot modify or delete the account I am unable to download any aps until I complete the parental verification stage.

I have just set up a new hotmail address (*** Email address is removed for privacy ***) with my correct DOB in order to undertake the parental verification but when trying to complete this task, the following error message is appearing;

"Our system is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

If the problem persists, please contact customer support.

I tried contacting a live assistant but they were unable to help.  I would be very grateful if you were able to resove this issue.
Kind regards, Andrew

I cannot delete my Outlook.com / Live account

I have an Outlook.com / Live account that I set up so that I could log on to Windows 8 am now using another one that I set up previously and therefore would like to delete it.  However whenever I use the 'Close Account' option I get the following message:

You need to cancel any paid services or Microsoft Points account associated with your Microsoft account.

I followed the link which takes me to my subscriptions but I do not have any and I do not have any points.

I would be grateful if someone from Microsoft could please advise me what I need to do.

Thanks, Paul.

Help managing multiple accounts (Merge, Link, etc.)

05. November 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: microsoft, Microsoft account, multiple accounts
I need help managing multiple accounts. Linking accounts sounded great, but apparently that feature was cancelled. I'd like to merge them together, but apparently that isn't a feature Microsoft is interested in creating.

I have a MSN.com account, Live.com account and now an Outlook.com account. On top of that, my Microsoft account is linked to a non-Microsoft email provider.

Ultimately, I'd like to be able to log in to my Microsoft account and see all my IDs or Aliases (or whatever you call them) in one place, be able to send mail from them all, etc., like some other providers do. Unfortunately this seems to be something that Microsoft isn't interested in doing.

Any ideas on how to make management of these accounts easier?

Unable to log-in to my old hotmail email via outlook.com

I am unable to log-in to outlook.com or even live.com. I get this message:

This account can't be used to access Outlook.com
You're currently signed in with an Office 365 email account, which can't be used with Outlook.com. Please click here to sign out of your Office 365 account, then use another Microsoft account to sign in to Outlook.com (for example, your hotmail.com, live.com, or msn.com account).

I have tried logging out of my Office 365 account and also cleaned cookies, cache etc using CCleaner, but still get exactly the same error.

I've even tried logging in via Firefox (which I've never logged into either live.com or 365 with before as I usually use IE and Chrome), but get the same error.

Now stuck as searching suggests that logging out and clearing cookies etc should have worked.

Cannot set up Office365 Home Premium Outlook to connect to Outlook.com

04. November 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: Lenovo Thinkpad, Microsoft account, Office 365 Home premium

I am looking for help to access mail hosted on Outlook.com using Outlook 2013 (Office 365 Home Premium v15.0.4535.1511).

My email address/Microsoft Account is not an Outlook.com, Live.com or Hotmail.com address - it is my own domain, something like <*** Email address is removed for privacy ***>.  I can reach my account successfully from my Nokia Lumia 920 and Windows Mail on my Lenovo Thinkpad 2 (Win8), but not from the "full" Outlook client on the Lenovo Thinkpad 2 (Win8) or a Windows 7 laptop (O365 HP also).

I have tried the following (unsuccessfully) to get Outlook to connect to Outlook.com:

  1. Select File->Add Account
  2. Select "Manual setup or additional server types"
  3. Select "Outlook.com or Exchange ActiveSync compatible service"
  4. Enter Name, Email Address, Mail Server, User Name, Password
    1. Email address is something like <*** Email address is removed for privacy ***>
    2. Password is my Microsoft Account password
    3. For the Mail Server I tried "m.hotmail.com" and "dub-m.hotmail.com" - my Lumia 920 uses the latter successfully (I think it is a Dublin server)
    4. User Name is therefore also <*** Email address is removed for privacy ***>

The test to access the account fails with the following error: "Log onto Exchange ActiveSync mail server (EAS): The username or password you entered isn't working. Please try typing them again."

Please can someone help.

Thanks
