I have just purchased a new Windows 8 PC that came with Messenger on it.  How do I voice chat with it?  So far I can only find a way to text

messages to friends?  I can find no options to set up a video session or set up the microphone?  I can't even find out what version of Messenger

I'm using.  Am I trying to make the wrong program work like my old MSN Messenger, that I could chat and video messages with?

I use an Microsoft webcam (Vx3000) on MSN Messenger and it does video calls with sound very well.

Previously when I used Xp the person at the other endof the video call could hear and enjoy my background music and we often exchanged tunes.

The webcam and its internal microphone report that everything is functioning but now although we can converse easily the other person cannot hear my music although I can easily hear songs that she plays?

Is there a setting in the Realtek Audio system that needs changig?

Thank you for any suggestions I may implement

I used to be able to send voice clips, but now I can't. What's different is that I reinstalled Windows 7.

The strange thing is that when I go into "Set up audio and video devices" the microphone volume gauge picks up my voice. Not only this but I can have audio calls with friends and they can hear me. So it's clearly not a microphone driver issue (I can also use Windows built-in Voice Recorder without any issues). It also shows that WLM recognises my microphone AS working (as I can have audio calls).

However, when I attempt to send a voice clip it says: The option to record voice clips is turned off.

This makes it seem like it's a choice...however when I go into Options...Messages. the ONLY bit about voice clips is under "Automatically accept when I receive" - this field, however, is faded out and I can neither tick or untick the box.

Consequently, I can't receive voice clips either.

Does anyone know why? Why can't I send/receive voice clips even though WLM acknowledges my mic. and speakers work....?
