I saved off my contact list from an outlook express mail system under XP to be restored under win 8.1 after installation.  Initially had a problem with a particular entry because the import process would stop because it didn't recognize the format of a record.  I edited the file using notepad and removed all entries which were not formatted correctly (Name, email address) and did another import.  The process stopped again and I looked at the record where stop occurred. athe full name is NAECED members and the Personal email is *** Email address is removed for privacy ***.  I delete all contacts including the NAECED one and try to import all contacts again.  Get the same problem.  It appears that the member entry isn't deleted but it isn't in the CSV file.

i have a csv file with 46 rows comprised of first and last name (together in one cell) and email addresses. when I import the file only the 46 names are imported and no email addresses are imported. is there a particular field structure format that must be used in order to get the email addresses in, too? I also tried an import using an Outlook 2013 pst file and everything came in with % delimiters in the names and included %SMTP % at the end of each email address. I have manually deleted the 46 names from the live.com address book multiple times now.  i am at the point that manually typing in the 46 would have been faster but there has got be an easier way to succeed at this. if there is a way to import to a group just for these addresses that would be a welcome bonus tip. all helpful assistance will be appreciated but don't refer me to online articles as I have already read more than a dozen that did not offer the help I need. step by step instructions or just details regarding the required format is the assistance I seek. thank you.
I have Windows 7 fully updated and outlook 2007 installed, I want to export my contacts to live mail and follow the export to csv option from outlook. When I upload to live mail I only get a small number of contacts import most of which appear to have no e.mail address? I have tried following the instructions several times with no better success. What am I doing wrong and why does the csv file appear to be corrupt as it does not import successfully?
I have Windows Live Mail 2011 and Windows 7.  I want to take some group emails (not my entire address book of emails) and save them in a Word 2010 file, so I can copy and past them into an email.  When I get several of these groups together, I want to send the Word file to another person, so that person can use the ones she wants to send emails.

When I try to save a group as an csv file it does my whole address book instead of the group I want and it is an excel file. (That doesn't look like a csv file to me.)  What would I have to do and what form would it have to be in to save it as a horizontal file in Word?

I am trying to do this so a new secretary at a new location with a different email program can send out emails that I used to have to do.  If anyone has any knowledge of how this can be done, please let me know.  It would be greatly appreciated. I have been trying to figure this out for some time. I need a detailed explanation.  Thanks in advance.
We have one laptop that had crashed and needed to have the OS reinstalled.  All the data on the drive was saved, including the windows live mail folders.  After the reinstall, we are unable to get the contacts to come up.  How can we get the contacts to integrate without the option to create a csv file.

Thank you

windows live Mail

How does one import a csv file directly into windows live mail category folder (OK if part of contacts as well, duplicates excluded)?  CSV file contains three columns: firstname, lastname, emailaddress
New to Windows 8 phone.  Messed up the contacts and now wanting to delete all the contacts in Windows Live site.  Seems like other than deleting one by one there is no way. Very inconvenient.

BTW the reason why the contacts got messed up is the following. I imported the contacts from my old phone into the Live account and had exported it as a CSV file.  Couple of days later, I imported from the same file. And viola. Some of the cell phone numbers got updated in engineering notations ( numbers like 9845e+11) . Went back to the CSV and checked that indeed some of the phone numbers were stored in engineering notations.  After a painstaking efforts, got the CSV corrected ( from my older cellphone contacts).  And then imported the CSV again.
Live did the import but did not replace the older contacts, just added duplicate entries.   The "Cleanup Contact" feature doesnt work as its output is useless.

Just need a clean method to delete all my contacts once so that I can start clean

I have another issue that is pending stemming from a problem that may have been created by modifying the .csv file exported from AOL.com contacts, in an effort to import into Outlook.com. (its' a duplicating contacts issue.)

While I wait for that issue to be resolved, (it's been a month or more) I am trying to track down the root of the issue myself.

It all starts with Aol.com export utility.

  1. I export a contacts list to .csv from aol
  2. I try to import that untouched, unmodified, .csv file into outlook.com and the email addresses are missing.
  3. I see no way to "map" the fields, that would be very useful.
  4. So I am stuck trying to modify the .csv in order to make these contacts show up correctly.

I can reproduce this issue from any aol account into any outlook.com account.

This MUST be a known issue.

The fix should NOT be to modify the file OR to import the file into Windows Live Mail.

The import tool in Outlook.com should just work, and have the correct mapping functionality to insure that it works.

Is anyone else in the same boat here?

What is the official answer for what I am supposed to do to get my contacts over from AOL.com seeing as the export import is failing?

Thanks...

Hi,

I am finding it quite frustrating to import a 'CSV' file from my Outlook to Outlook.com through the process on 'People'.
I have tried importing several different formats of the CSV file but all I get is 'The file you chose is not a CSV file. Please choose a different file.' or 'There is a problem importing the file, pleae try again'. The file is DEFINITELY a CSV file.
I have tried doing this via Chrome and Explorer browser but all I get is the same messages no matter what I do.

Please help if you can,
Thanks
