Task Manager does 'not' say 'not responding' but the UI will only get to listing my contacts. Then it freezes.

Yesterday, I was setting myself as appear offline to 2 contacts, when I decided to appear offline to a whole group. After I set the group to 'appear offline' I left Windows Live Messenger alone.

Then this morning, I got a IM from someone (not in the group that was blocked). When I tried to open the window it was frozen, w/o me being able to read the IM.

I decided to 'end task' on Windows Live Messenger and re-open it.

It is always frozen after it lists my contacts.

I then tried messenger on a different computer. It behaves the same. I feel it has to do with the setting I made, 'appear offline' (to a whole group).

I am able to sign in to the web version, but I really would rather not.

The web version doesn't have the ability to set who you 'appear offline' to.

I was able to go into an old windows XP computer (With an older version of Windows Live Messenfer) and sign in,,,,, but that version doesn't have the appear offline option.

Please help.

Thanks

Just started happening. Starting up messenger works, the login works, changing windows works. I can see received messages and I can see messages I send from my phone. I can also change my status. However, everything else is locked up. I ran the repair program but the problem persisted so I uninstalled, restarted my computer, and reinstalled and yet the problem is still there.

EDIT: Just tried uninstalling 2012 and installing 2011. No go.
I can sign in, but after that nothing. I cannot click on any names to send a message, I cannot even minimize or close the window. It just seems frozen. It is the same on my Mom's computer with her Messenger. I have even gone so far as to unistall and reinstall. Still having the same problem. Help.
Messenger works for 30 or so minutes, then freezes and eats up all my memory running the program. It was fine until today.  This isn't just me, its also happening to other friends of mine who are experiencing the same issue so it doesnt seem like a computer issue on my end. It must be MSN Message program itself as messenger works and connects if I use it through the hotmail webpage
Every time I try to access Live Messenger, it is locking up my computer.  It worked fine until the last few minutes.  The same problem is occurring with everybody else I know on the system.  When I pull it up in the task list, it is pulling more and more memory and not responding.
any sugestions?
I bought a new computer. I added it to my home network and transferred data from my old computer to my new computer using the network. I started up Windows Live Mail on my new computer and used  'file import' to bring in my old email files.  The 'import' function saw and imported my 'Windows Mail' files (I used Windows Mail on my old computer through 2009, then switched to Windows Live Mail), but it couldn't see or import my 'Windows Live Mail' files. I know the old Windows Live Mail email files are there, but I can't figure out why Windows Live Mail can't see them or how to import them. Any suggestions?
This morning when Hotmail was inaccessible for a while, i started to worry that if something permanent goes wrong, I might lose all my contacts.

I recently purchased a 64 bit computer with Windows 7 OS and Windows Live mail, and a Canon 700F scanner.

The scanner is supposed to attach scanned documents to the email program just by a push of the E-Mail buttom on the end of the unit.  This fails to happen, howerver.  I am fairly confident that I have properly selected the various settings and preferences on the scanner, and have also downloaded the latest drivers for the scanner.

When the attachment fails, a message pops up advising to check the mail programsettings.  I have looked at the various settings, but cannot find any that I think would make a difference.

Any help in this regard would be appreciated.
