I have been using Windows Live Mail on a Windows 10 PC. It has a relatively small SSHD ("C Drive"). Therefore, I set up Live Mail so that the Email Message Store is on a second Drive ("D Drive"). This had been working for a long time.
One day, after trying to wake up the PC from sleep mode, the PC hung, so I hard rebooted. Then Live Mail kept giving me several different error messages when I tried launching it, such as: Can't locate data files, Can't find junk filter, Calendar corrupt, etc.
For the last couple of days I've tried various things, such as rebooting many times, uninstalling & reinstalling Live Mail many times, using back-up copies of the Email Message Store Files, and editing the File Store Location information in the registry.
I finally figured out I could get Live Mail to launch if I moved my Email Message Store file from the D Drive to the C Drive. Unfortunately, the file structure I used to save emails is all screwed up. I have over 10 years worth of emails stored in these files!
Can anyone help me fix this problem?

Is it as simple as moving all the .eml files into a common location?

06/19/12 I updated Live Mail. Now all my contacts are duplicated. I'd like to find where these records are and delete them using Windows Explorer rather than from within Live Mail. Where can I find the contact file(s) on my c: drive?since downloading windows 10 I have lost the list of contacts
I am from a business IT background and have limited knowledge of consumer products.
I am assisting a neighbor who had Windows Live Mail 2012 on Windows 8.1 connected to their Bigpond.com mailbox. They used their calendar religiously to record upcoming events.
They came to me when their machine couldn't successfully start Windows due to a corrupt registry. I took a snapshot of the machine and rebuilt the box with the OEM media to reinstall Windows 8.1 plus apps.
A couple of questions
- What files does Live mail store its data in (eg OLK standalone mode stores in PST's) and where are they.
- Where is calendar data stored. I have read a number of MS forum posts that all refer to Microsoft Accounts, however the user is adamant they don't have an MS account. So I am assuming the data is stored elsewhere (Bigpond's servers perhaps?)
- In the forum and support posts for Windows Live mail, posts referring to transferring data from one machine to another assumes you have access to a working system with Live Mail running, something this family no longer had. How do I transfer data that I can recover from the backup to the newly rebuilt machine.
Any assistance is greatly appreciated
