I can't send from WLM.

The error message doesn't match the 50 pages of sending & receiving questions and answers in the community.

Since I cant send, this question cannot reach you.

please respond to *** Email address is removed for privacy ***.

The following is the error message I receive:

"The message could not be sent.  The setting for your outgoing email (SMTP) server might need to be configured.  To find the server settings for "(I tried several addressees)' please contact your email service provider.  Server error 554.  Server Response 554 5.7.1 (R8) Authentication Failed, must login.  Server 'smtp.q.com'.  Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800ccc79   Protocol SMTP   Port: 25  Secure (SSL): No."

Now my centrurylink provider's email program is/runs/sends fine (they checked it out and referred me back to M'Soft).  M'Soft blew me off 4 times, so am seeking help from the community.  I have read all posts (you guys are pros) and tried a few things (like fixing W Essentials), but nothing matches my error message.  Am using Win 8.1, and my wife prefers WLM but can't send.  I use the q.com (CenturyLink) email.  (Would appreciate a CC: response at that linked address:  *** Email address is removed for privacy *** as well).

I think it is the set up for WLM (Port 25 doesn't look right).  Login shouldn't be a problem, as when I open my computer each morning I sign in to the computer with *** Email address is removed for privacy ***, so I don't understand  error msg "failed, must log in".

Gratefully appreciate your help.

Greetings!

I have a older laptop running Windows Live Mail (WLM) under Windows 7.  I have a new laptop running WLM under Windows 8.1.  I want to transfer all my email messages and folder structure from the old laptop to the new one.

In WLM in the old laptop, I opened 'Export email' --> 'email messages' --> 'Microsoft Windows Live Mail' format --> and selected a new, empty folder on an external hard drive for a destination --> and clicked 'All folders'.  It took what seemed like an appropriate time and I got a successful completion message.

In WLM in the new laptop, I opened 'Import messages' --> 'Windows Live Mail' format --> selected the same folder on the external drive --> clicked 'All folders' and clicked 'next.  Instantly I got a message saying that the import was complete.  When I went to WLM I found that there was a new item under 'Storage folders', but it was just some empty email folders.  No email messages were imported.

I have tried this twice with the same result.

What do I need to do?

I am having a problem with WLM on a new Dell PC using Win 7 professional. I also have another Dell with the same OS Running WLM that is working fine. When I configured the new WLM account in the new machine, I set the General ,Servers, Security, and Advanced parameters up with the same values as the working machine. Here is my problem:

When I start up WLM in the new machine, I get an error message “The server you are connected to is using a security certificate that could not be verified. The certificate’s CN name does not match the passed value. Do you want to continue using this server? (yes or no)” I have to respond “yes” to be able to use the mail.

I spoke with Dell Premium Support who connected to my machine to verify my settings and found nothing wrong. They came to the conclusion that I could not have two PC’s using the same WLM system. Is that true? The only thing I can think of is the possibility I used a different password when entering the account data that was entered in the other machine. In one instance, when I tried different passwords, the working machine stopped working as well. I had to change the passwords in the working machine to get it working again, so they seem to be sensitive to what passwords I use.  My question is this: Do I have to use the same password that I sign on to my AT&T Yahoo account for both email accounts? I am trying to figure out what is going wrong with the failing certificates in the new machine. I am afraid to monkey with the working machine so that both machines become unable to use WLM

Hi,

Can someone please tell me if there is a way to change the light blue coloring of the WLM Quick Access Toolbar "ribbon". I have a user who has impaired vision and does not see blue very well. If I could change it too white that would make a huge difference.

Thank you,
The junk mail security options in my WLM don't seem to be working.  None of the options result in junk mail in the junk mail folder.
Do I have another indicator set incorrectly?
Windows live mail deletes emails from my gmail server after downloading, I checked the advanced properties in WLM but don't have the option for leaving mail on server - When I first linked my gmail to WLM the incoming and outgoing servers were POP3 but for some reason its now IMAP? Is there a way I can set WLM to leave emails on the server or can I change the IMAP back to POP3 without losing my folders - any help would be greatly appreciated!

I can no longer get to my newsgroups because Live Mail says it cannot connect to the internet, possibly due to antivirus program or firewall.  I turned off anti virus and still can't connect.   I checked firewall and Live Mail is being given permission to connect.  Also, Live Mail  DOES download my email;  it is only the newsgroups that are causing problems.  This occurred with Microsoft newsgroups as well as my other newsgroup.  How can I correct this?  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling with no difference.  I also created a new user account and I still have the problem with that account.  Please help.  I don't want to reinstall my entire OS if possible.

I have no problem on my laptop connecting with WLM and have similar settings on both,

Thanks.

(I have corrected this problem).  I was notified of several replies, but none showed up when  I went to the post, so I thought I would just edit to thank everyone.  A reply to my next post was the answer.  I had entered the port number incorrectly. )

Hi,

I'm using the WLM 2011 e-mail client provided with mi Windows 7 Professional edition. I've been using Outlook Exchange in the past and miss several features. Is there any other MS e-mail client that will support at least the following features?

- Conversations: as part of the grouping, show both received and sent e-mails related to a conversation (WLM only shows received).

- Find e-mail: When looking for e-mails through a particular keyword, the used keyword should display highlighted.

- When on a particular e-mail within a conversation/thread, having the "You replied to this message..." tracking option displayed.

- A basic functionality Task/To Do tool.

Thank you,

M.
