I have not been able to go into OFFLINE mode in Windows Live Mail for months.  I know there are all kinds of issues with getting back online, but I have now lost the ability to go OFFLINE at all.  I can no longer work on emails when I am NOT connected to wifi or else when I go back on wifi, all the emails I deleted or replied to end up back in my inbox as unread... adding more time to my day sorting through emails I have already dealt with.  Not great for a small business owner.

I saw another post with the same issue in January, but there were no replies and when I tried to reply I kept getting an error message.

I was using Outlook Express in XP Pro with no problems. I upgraded to Windows Live Mail for XP and now when I send a message it is not formatted properly and it has code like this in the message.

        –––&ndas
h;––––––––––&n
dash;–––––––––&ndash
;––––––––––&nd
ash;––––––––––
––––––––––&nda

sh;–––––––

I have tried changing the mail send options to html or plain text. Playing with the different settings but it has made no difference. I found a thread where it said the sender is not in allowed contacts and I made the change by setting up my account manually and that error disappeared. Regardless the mail messages still have the &ndash html codes in them. I did go back to Outlook express and test and I can send the same messages and it doesn't put &ndash in them so this is specific to Windows Live. Even looking at this message I just copied the above from the bad message and now even what I type right now is not formatted properly.

What is wrong?

The windows live mail 'red flags' are flashing/flickering randomly.  This started a few days ago.  I am running Windows 8.1.  All software is up to date and I have right clicked on Windows Essentials in Programs and done a repair etc, which has not helped.  Any advice would be great...thx

I have tried to import select DBX folders from my old XP PRO computer into Windows Live Mail with NO success at all.

I have followed all the basic steps by copying the DBX folders on to a thumb drive and attempting to bring them into Windows LIve Mail via the import section on the file menu.

The message I get is this:

"No messages can be found in this folder or another application is running that has the required files open.  Please select another folder or try closing applications that have files open".

I look at the file's properties and show it contains information (bytes).  I try to bring in individual DBX files to no avail.

Considering the above message, I have tried to close everything that is related to this import, still to no avail.

I have also spoken to a friend that has attempted to transfer files from OE to Live Mail and he told me that it never worked either.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The one thing I haven't done is try compacting folders in OE but that comes next.

I assume that Windows Live Mail (version 2009) was signed into a ID (that I have forgotten) prior to doing the following:

On my Windows 7 online racing computer I have my GP******mc@hotmail e-mail account setup using Windows Live Mail and On my wife's Windows 7 desktop computer in the other end of the house I have my Hu********** Email address is removed for privacy *** and P*********1942@gmail accounts setup using Windows Live Mail also. Since I use her desktop most of the time (and the racing computer is powered off most of the time) I thought it would be great if I could check my GP******mc@hotmail on her computer. I know I could check it using a browser but that's one more step plus the contacts don't show up that way. So I added GP******mc@hotmail to the exiting Windows Live Mail on her computer a couple of days ago. Everything was working great (I thought. All three e-mail accounts showing up in WLM) until I went to send out a new e-mail from my Hu********** Email address is removed for privacy *** account when I discovered, to my horror, that all 75 or so contacts had been replaced by the 17 GP******mc@hotmail contacts. I noted that at the upper right corner of WLM that WLM was signed in as GP******mc@hotmail. When I signed in as t********* Email address is removed for privacy *** (which is the only other Microsoft account I can remember) all contacts go away. If I try to sign WLM in as Hu*******d@gmail or P*********1942@gmail it says the accounts (Microsoft Accounts) do not exist. Since I have a lot of Sent e-mail saved in each of those two accounts I could probably look at each one using properties to get the e-mail address which each was sent to (except most were sent using Bcc: and no address shows up) and manually re-entering them but that would take quite a while. A small number of the lost people have in the past sent me e-mail so It was no problem right clicking on those e-mail and clicking on add to address list. But that still leaves me short over 50 e-mail address. Do you know of any other way of getting my lost contacts back? I thought of doing a System Restore to an earlier date but discovered that System Restore Point was never created (I swear it was at one time because I always do that when setting up a computer). If by chance that WLM was logged into a Microsoft ID (before I added the 3rd account) that I have forgotten, is there anyway to find out what other Microsoft IDs I may have. All I need is the ID because once I have the ID I would probably remember the PW. I would guess that once I sign WLN in using the forgotten ID that my contacts will return. I sure hope so. If not I'm at a loss as to what to do.
