Problems with Windows Movie Maker Importing Video from Sony Handycam

How Do I Safely Download the Correct Driver/Converter/Codec (not sure which one required) for File Type: MPEG 2 Stream File with File Extension: .m2ts so Movie Maker can recognize and import my video that I tried to import through the built in 2.0 USB cable in my Sony Handycam (model, HDR-CX220)?  How do I get it to import this video file format?  Is the problem with "PlayMemories Home" that Sony suggested I install on my computer?
Looking forward to the most efficient, quickest and best way to import my videos and pictures from my new Sony Handycam.

upload video to skydrive – will skydrive pre-convert?

I understand that skydrive will only support certain Video file types for streaming.  However, my question is will Skydrive or some other plug-in (e.g., windows live photo gallery upload to skydrive) do an automatic pre-convert while uploading to skydrive so that the file loaded is in the proper format for streaming.

The goal is to have a seamless and trouble free process whereby I can merely upload videos to skydrive and not worry about the raw video file format.  I do NOT want to have to add another step to convert the file first.  That I already know how to do.
