How do I update to the new skype messenger? I already have skype
So I installed Skype as instructed and so when I log in I have Skype but no longer a connection to Outlook on the bottom task bar? I really have little use for Skype right now but use Outloook all the time. Why is there not an auto connection to Outlook from Skype as there was with Messenger? Maybe I am just missing something? I can log into Outlook seperately but this is not really user friendly.
I would prefer to avoid my Messenger being uninstalled or changed to Skype as I already have Skype installed.

I realize keeping a fully functional Messenger is not an option, but I would like to keep the program the way it is, even if it does not continue to work.

Does turning off Windows automatic updates prevent my Messenger from being automatically uninstalled when the time comes?

If not, how can I keep the program / prevent a forced update or switch?

Do we have to use Skype, will Messenger still be available?  If not will we be able to make our own emoticons in Skype like we can in Messenger?

I have hit major problems migrating from live messenger to skype.

My computer is used by more than one person, both with different Live Messenger accounts.

I logged in as user "B", and clicked the "A new version of Messenger is available. Get it now" link.

This uninstalled Live Messenger, and installed Skype.

Logging into Skype, as User "B" just gets to the page which advises "signed in with a Microsoft Account", and asks "I have a Skype Account"/ I'm New to Skype".  "I have a Skype Account" does not recognise the Microsoft Account, and "I'm new to Skype" responds (After agreeing , "join skype") "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again".

Logging into Skype, as User "A" logs into  Skype ok, but there are no contacts there.

On another machine, I can log into user "B" using Live Messenger, but not User "A".

Following advice elsewhere, logging on using http://people.live.com, both User "A" & "B" show the contacts, and none "missing".

Inviting an existing (missing) contact on the user "A" account from here sends an email to the missing contact, and following the links to accept the invite on this email works, but the contact still doesn't appear on Skype.

Question 1.  How else can I get the missing contacts which show on   http://people.live.com to appear on Skype.

Question 2. I assume that the "migration" only migrated the first Account which was used on Live Messenger on that computer. How can I migrate the other account(s) to Skype, noting that I no longer have Live Messenger on that machine, and other machines with Live Messenger installed will hit the same problem as they have different other Live Messenger user accounts.

  • Are contacts appearing on Web Messenger? If yes are they appearing online or Offline?
    Yes, they are appearing online
  • Were you able to restore and re-invite them? If yes are they appearing online or Offline?
No, they appear on the web so I cannot restore them.
  • Are all your contacts missing or just partial?
    Just partial

I have tried logging off and back on including the other options on this forum.

I accidentally selected to create new skype account the first time and the contacts were all there. I unlinked it and linked with my skype account and the result is only showing about 15 contacts when there should be 100+

I hate Skype and want to keep my messenger the way it is now.  Is there anything out there that will emulate my good old messenger?
If i am forced to go to skype i will remove msn... i have been apart of msn for over 10 years!! i honestly say i'm hurt that only chinese users are allowed to stay on the msn network :(
