Hello,
After about a year or so of normal use Photo Gallery developed an annoying bug:  The vast majority of my thumbnails show up as the generic mountain icon!  If I double click on one, the picture displays normally.  Windows explorer shows thumbnails for the same pictures folder just fine.

Things that I have tried in order to fix this:
1) Going to control panel>folder options>view and making sure that "Always show icons, never thumbnails" is unchecked
2) Renaming/deleting the Pictures.pd6 in AppData>Local>Microsoft>Windows Live Photo Gallery
3) Deleting entirely the Windows Live and Windows Live Photo Gallery folders in AppData
4) Uninstalling and re-installing
5) Uninstalling and re-installing a previous version (2011)
6) Running command prompt>sfc/scannow (It showed no problems)
7) Deleting the windows thumbnail database via disk cleanup
8) Running the Microsoft Fix it for Photo Gallery at http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_photo_and_slideshow_diag/?wa=wsignin1.0

My computer has an SSD on C:\ and a HDD on D:\.  I should add that I set my user directory to a non-default location via a registry edit, so my user directory is D:\Alex.  I highly doubt this is the cause since Photo Gallery was working fine for about a year.  When I boot up on my HDD side and run Photo Gallery, it works normally.

Any help on this issue would be appreciated.

In Windows Photo gallery I click on Share, then Publish to Facebook and I get this ERROR Message: Could not load file or assembly "System.Web, Version+4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f57f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find file specified. I must stupid, I can't seem to upload, download photos or manage photo files or do anything correctly with my photos. I'm doing something wrong when I move them from my digital camera to my computer??????? Thank you

I have a fresh installation of Windows 8.1 on a new computer, but when I try to open a photo in Photo Gallery, I get a lot of messages in Russian (looks like some agreement, but still). Closing this requires me to use Task Manager, as I get an extra russian pop-up with another question and two incomprehensible buttons.

It's not a virus (Bitdefender installed) and shipped like this with Windows. No way of telling Microsoft about bugs either...

I have new windows 8 computer and finally found info on how to download Windows Live Essentials.  Download appeared to go well, but It only put the icons for the Photo Gallery and Move Maker modules and not the Mail client or Calendar, on my taskbar.

In my list of program files, I find 2 Windows MAIL sub-folders.  One of them is in the folder "Program files/" and the other in in the folder "Program files (x86)  /Windows Mail".Windows.  Both subfolders contain the same 6  file, 2 are application files and 4 are application extensions.  The only difference I can see between the files in the 2 folders is a slight difference in the size of the files.

Then, in the folder "Program files (86) there is a sub folder for Windows LIVE, which has a sub folder for "Contacts" and for "Photo Gallery" and "Installer".  The Photo Gallery folder seems to contain the files for "Movie Maker" but nowhere do I see how I an get a start up icon for Contacts, Mail for Calendar.

????????

I had to get a new laptop and I got Windows 7.  I also ended up with Outlook mail and a new photo gallery.  I was perfectly happy with the way my old photo gallery worked and my Hotmail.  Now, in window live photo gallery my pictures are  in two or three, or more sections or groups; they're not all together in one group.  Then when I want to add a pictures to email, and I click "insert" I have to chose "files as attachments" and then I have to choose "pictures".  But then I get a bunch of folders that I have to sort through and not everything is there that is in photo gallery, broken up as it may be.  How do I live with this; how do I manage this?  It was much better before.  Am I missing something?

Hi! I want to stop photo gallery in Win 8.1 displaying the photos in skydrive, how to do it?

And also, I want to exactly understand where the photos displaying in photo gallery is from.

Thank you!

Hi,

I was storing all my photo on a NAS which failed. The hard drive was fine so I have recovered the photographs and copied them on to a new NAS. While PG can rebuild the database based on the information stored in the metadata there are still bits that were only stored in the database. I have 13,000 photos so don't want to lose all this info I added to them.

How can 'tell' the old database where the new files are located?

thanks in advance.
