why did microsoft switch us from our great hotmail accounts to this outlook which stinks, not appealing at all ????????????????????

Original Tittle: why did microsoft switch from hotmail to outlook...........it stinks !~~

Since having been forced to use SKYPE, instead of MSN MESSENGER, I've found I no longer get notification of new email.. Have tried as suggested, signing into  my Microsoft account pressing ALT+F  hovering over options, then clicking on the sound for incoming e-mails but it don't work....Not pleased at all that this has been taken away..Also find the the OUTLOOK is so basic, there is no spell checker, have tried to change back to HOTMAIL, couldn't find the "revert back" as was advised would get the choice to do..

      regards, Pam

P.S.   I'M AMAZED AND DISAPOINTED THAT NOBODY SEEMS TO HAVE AN ANSWER TO THIS.

On 20th of March around 6pm the Microsoft/Hotmail switched me to Outlook image without to ask me or to give me the OPTION to switch back to my old Hotmail settings.

When I spoke with Microsoft assistance they suggested to ask Hotmail whether they can help me to switch back to my Hotmail settings temporarily even, until to adjust to new Outlook image.

It should be given an option to Hotmail users to whether they want or not to switch to Outlook settings instead of landing them abruptly into Outlook.

The excuse of Microsoft was that they notified their users. They maybe notified them with a banner but they did not give them the option whether they want to switch to Outlook.

Many friends of mine that they have Hotmail accounts they had not been switched on yet into new Outlook settings.

I request to switch back to my Hotmail settings until to adjust to this new inconvenient Outlook image.

Please help me to switch back to my Hotmail settings.
my distribution lists that I've created in Outlook 2011 on my computer no longer send.  I swear I haven't done anything differently but the error message I get is:

EmailAddress or Itemid must be included in the request

The email goes back to drafts.  I've been using these distribution lists for years in some cases and just yesterday they stopped working.

Appears to be a KNOWN ISSUE with Microsoft but I can not get any free support for a programming issue on their part!

I would rather not uninstall office 2011 for the mac and then reinstall and update to 14.3.1 and turn off office updates.
Hot fix? work around? ability to just install 14.3.1?

Suggestions? Thank you in advance
Chris

While the vast majority of users have been migrated with no problems there is no guarantee.  If your data is important to you, it should be backed up whether you are been migrated or not.

Microsoft clearly states in the terms of use, that you are responsible for the data not them.

I tell everyone who stores data in the cloud to back up their data or risk losing it.

1-You probably wont lose your data
2-If all goes well you will be able to use them both before and after the switch.

You should regularly backup the content that you store on the cloud. Having a regular backup plan and following it can help you prevent loss of your content.
One of the biggest issues with web based emails is that if you are ever hacked and dont have a back up you have lost everything.

The best way I know of to backup your email is to install Windows live mail, configure it, and sync it.  Seems like a bit of a PITA but if your data is important to you worth the effort.

Remember Microsoft is not responsible for securing your data, you are.

Don't forget to back up your entire computer as well.

Split from a previous thread.

Every time I try to access a Windows Phone page, I get this error message: "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in at the moment. Please try again later." I can however still access other Microsoft sites, such as Xbox, and Outlook. This started back when I got my Nokia Lumia 820 on Tuesday and linked my Microsoft account to my phone.
I'm receiving emails supposedly from Microsoft Account, Hotmail.  Its telling me that I've exceeded my storage limit and will be cut off from my account if I don't go into this portal.  I've completely emptied most of my boxes and keep them quite small daily.  But this morning I had yet another email telling me the same.

This email has no Microsoft logo or anything to say that its a genuine Microsoft Hotmail message.  I'm very suspicious too as it comes into my 'junk' box each time.  (this is the 3rd one I've had in 2 months).

I did go into the email this morning and all that was on the page was a form requesting my personal details.  I'm not prepared to give any of this, as there's nothing once again to say that its from Microsoft.

My other complaint is that there is nowhere on the 'Help' button here that I can report this to and I'm sure this is the wrong forum to make a complaint or ask for help.

I have so many worries from checking out the forum; am really quite worried about this new "upgrade".  I really don't understand why Microsoft just didn't leave well enough alone OR check things out further; it would seem that with all the concerns that an organization such as Microsoft would just go back to the old way!!  HOWEVER, BECAUSE I AM BEING FORCED TO UPGRADE I HAVE QUESTIONS....... Answer I received was not fully helpful nor made sense (not a techie here) and maybe that is because I didn't ask it clearly, so I am going to reword it and ask again. The previous answer was "shouldn't" however that definitely is not giving me assurance.

I have the old hotmail (which I do like very much!); I have my inbox, sent, etc. but I have also created about 15 folders (organization purposes for mails); when the AUTOMATIC/FORCED UPGRADE occurs - Am I going to lose all those folders and all the mail that is in each folder???

It appears from the forums that individuals are not getting all their mails or attachments so I am quite worried.

I have been trying to save attachments to each of these mails over the years, a monumental task, but I am so fearful that I will lose important documents attached to the emails.
