Since having been forced to use SKYPE, instead of MSN MESSENGER, I've found I no longer get notification of new email.. Have tried as suggested, signing into my Microsoft account pressing ALT+F hovering over options, then clicking on the sound for incoming e-mails but it don't work....Not pleased at all that this has been taken away..Also find the the OUTLOOK is so basic, there is no spell checker, have tried to change back to HOTMAIL, couldn't find the "revert back" as was advised would get the choice to do..
regards, Pam
P.S. I'M AMAZED AND DISAPOINTED THAT NOBODY SEEMS TO HAVE AN ANSWER TO THIS.

While the vast majority of users have been migrated with no problems there is no guarantee. If your data is important to you, it should be backed up whether you are been migrated or not.
Microsoft clearly states in the terms of use, that you are responsible for the data not them.
I tell everyone who stores data in the cloud to back up their data or risk losing it.
1-You probably wont lose your data
2-If all goes well you will be able to use them both before and after the switch.
You should regularly backup the content that you store on the cloud. Having a regular backup plan and following it can help you prevent loss of your content.
One of the biggest issues with web based emails is that if you are ever hacked and dont have a back up you have lost everything.

The best way I know of to backup your email is to install Windows live mail, configure it, and sync it. Seems like a bit of a PITA but if your data is important to you worth the effort.

Remember Microsoft is not responsible for securing your data, you are.
Don't forget to back up your entire computer as well.
I have so many worries from checking out the forum; am really quite worried about this new "upgrade". I really don't understand why Microsoft just didn't leave well enough alone OR check things out further; it would seem that with all the concerns that an organization such as Microsoft would just go back to the old way!! HOWEVER, BECAUSE I AM BEING FORCED TO UPGRADE I HAVE QUESTIONS....... Answer I received was not fully helpful nor made sense (not a techie here) and maybe that is because I didn't ask it clearly, so I am going to reword it and ask again. The previous answer was "shouldn't" however that definitely is not giving me assurance.
I have the old hotmail (which I do like very much!); I have my inbox, sent, etc. but I have also created about 15 folders (organization purposes for mails); when the AUTOMATIC/FORCED UPGRADE occurs - Am I going to lose all those folders and all the mail that is in each folder???
It appears from the forums that individuals are not getting all their mails or attachments so I am quite worried.
I have been trying to save attachments to each of these mails over the years, a monumental task, but I am so fearful that I will lose important documents attached to the emails.
