I recently cannot attach some files (not a photo file but a file like Microsoft software file e.g. Microsoft Word or Excel and PDF files) to my outlook email when trying to send an email with an attached document. As soon as I add the attachment to the email,  there is a problem between outlook and internet explorer and the email program in outlook is closed by Internet Explorer and I lose the email that I am drafting. I now have to be sending attached files from my other email accounts and not from outlook or my hotmail account which is very inconvenient. Please fix this problem immediately for Outlook users with Internet Explorer 10.

Thanks in advance Patricia

My computer has recently automatically updated Windows and I now find that Live Mail is blocking all .doc and .docx attachments as "prohibited file types". I can access them by unticking "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus" in Safety Options but feel that that could leave my computer open to viruses that might be contained in other file types. Microsoft Word attachments to stored emails are also blocked when the box is ticked. I am running Windows Home Premium which came with the computer when I bought it.

Has anyone else come across this problem and is there a solution.

i had to return to factory settings. My cv is saved as an attachment in my inbox on outlook, when i came to open my attachment it opened it in wordpad, ( i think i should of opened it in microsoft word ). i then asked me if i wanted to open all my files in wordpad and in a rush i answered yes. Is there any way to reverse this ?
I just bought and installed Microsoft office. It will not let me activate Microsoft word or Powerpoint. It keeps saying Sorry there was a problem while trying to connect to my account. I have tried everything! If someone could help me resolve this, that would be great!

I bought a Microsoft Surface and love it.  Here's my problem:  I create files in Microsoft Word and password protect them.  I use my SkyDrive as a backup in case something happens to my surface (stolen, lost, broken, etc.).  The snag is, if anyone gets on my computer and hits the SkyDrive button all the password encrypted files instantly open without asking for a password.  What's the point in having a SkyDrive backup if I can't password protect them?

Is there a way to password protect either the file I save to SkyDrive OR access to the SkyDrive from my Surface?  For instance, if someone tried to access my SkyDrive from my Surface, is there a way to password protect access to even get on my SkyDrive?

And if not, can anyone recommend a service I can store my files on that's like SkyDrive?  From reading other answers it seems that Google's version of cloud storage can't password protect access to files either.  Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi,

I followed this procedure:

If you wish to rescue your folder structure, read the steps below very carefully and try to follow them precisely and hopefully you will be able to recover your data.

1. Make a duplicate copy of your data to work with and keep your original corrupted identity safe in case this method of recovery doesn’t work for you.
2. Use the instructions at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2398768 to completely remove all Microsoft Office from your system.
3. Restart your computer.
4. Install the original Office 2011 14.0.0 onto your computer, and make sure it is activated.
5. Open a blank document in Microsoft Word, and allow it to fully load up. Then quit Word.
6. Launch Microsoft Auto Update and upgrade Office to SP1 14.1.0. Make sure that you do not install any later updates than that.
7. Open a blank document in Microsoft Word, and allow it to fully load up. Then quit Word.
8. Manually download and intsall update 14.1.4 from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=28405.
9. Disconnect your computer from the Internet and do NOT reconnect it again until you have completed the recovery.
10. Open the Microsoft Database Utility, and delete all the existing identities. There should only be one. Your corrupted identity should not appear in there. DO NOT DELETE IT if it is there (you must have done something wrong….start over).
11. Now that there are no identities in the list, create a new blank identity. It will automatically be named “Identity 1″.
12. Quit the database utility.
13. In the duplicate of your corrupted identity (created in step 1), delete the database file. Then navigate to the “Data Records” folder and delete the “Database Headers” folder.
14. Now copy the “Database Headers” folder from “/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2011 Identities/Indentity 1/Data Records” and paste it inside the “Data Records” folder of the duplicate of your corrupted identity. What you have done now, is copy a clean “Database Headers” folder that has database headers in version 14.1.4. What you intend to do here, is trick the database utility v14.1.4 to think that your SP2 identity conforms to its own version and will then attempt to rebuild it.
15. Delete “Identity 1″ from the location mentioned in the previous step (you won’t need it anymore) and then move the duplicate of your corrupted identity in its place.
16. Now launch the database utility, and you should only see that duplicate of your corrupted identity. Nothing else should be listed there. Now click Rebuild and keep your fingers crossed (that’s of course only if you have enough memory as explained earlier. Otherwise, it would just be a waste of your time because the rebuild will probable fail).
17. You should receive a message saying that your database was rebuilt successfully. Now, quit the database utility.
18. While you are still disconnected from the internet, start Microsoft Outlook. (and there you go, all your data back in front of your eyes….with all the folder structures maintained)……BUT HOLD ON, you’re not done yet.
19. Follow steps 1,2,3, and 4 from http://www.officeformachelp.com/2012/05/how-to-move-your-data-to-a-new-identity/
20. Once you have quit Outlook in step 4 at that link in the previous step, start Microsoft AutoUpdate and install all available updates until you Office is updated to 14.2.4.
21. Now go back to http://www.officeformachelp.com/2012/05/how-to-move-your-data-to-a-new-identity/ and skip step 5. Go to Step 6 and continue to the end of that document.
22. You should now have your Outlook looking exactly as it did the day your identity got corrupted, hopefully with no data lost at all.

I started from 14.0 then 14.1.4 but to no avail. I figured it might be that my identity came from a later version so i tried from 14.0 to 14.1.4 then upgraded
to 14.3.6 but the result was still the same.

I did get the notification that my database was successfully rebuilt but when i opened my outlook, all the folders are present but no single email was there. I checked the size of my main identity (which is about 30gb) and the size is still the same. i have so much important emails that I need to retrieve but don't know what to do.  Please help.
Hi,

Im new to the Apple word and have just purchased an MacBook Pro.  Im slowly finding my way around however i am missing Microsoft word.  Does anyone have any good suggestions for the Apple equivalent.  I don't mind purchasing however if there are any free or cost effective solutions that would be great.  I will not be using it everyday, just occasional use for letters, price lists etc.

Many Thanks for any help guys.

Heidi
I am having a problem where the files being received by my customers are not the same files that are being attached to the outgoing emails in the first place.  In case that doesn't make complete sense, let me try to list out the steps I am taking.

Using Microsoft Word:
I open my master quotation template (it is a Microsoft Word 97-2003 .doc file)
I click "Save As" and rename the file with the Project Name
I modify the wording/pricing on the template as needed
I click "Save"

I then open my internet browser (IE or Chrome; I've tried both with the same results)
I go to Outlook and create a New message
I choose "Insert > Files as Attachments" and browse through to find the .doc file that I saved with the Project Name

Here's where the problem turns up:
The person receiving my email is not receiving the Project quotation.
Instead, they are receiving my master quotation template.

Any ideas as to why this may be happening?  It does not happen every time.  But it does happen a large portion of the time.  I have taken extra care to make sure that I am clicking "Save" in Microsoft Word prior to attaching the Project quotation file to the email.  Even so, I am still having the same problem occurring here and there.  Please help!

Hi i have microsoft word, excel etc on my computer and have never had a paroblem with it till now everytime i try to open the microsoft starter english it pops up in a window saying this cannott be opened please try again or repair the program in control panel, have tried numerous times and still cant work out how to "repair ' it in  the control panel, helllp i have no idea what im doing and i really really really need this to work now :(

When I post PDF documents to my Skydrive, Microsoft Word App opens the document, and the quality of the document displayed is poor, and more importantly, it only displays the first page of a multipage document! This is not at all apparent to either the uploader or the downloader.

Here is a link to an example of the problem. http://sdrv.ms/16jChMu

The above link is to a folder entitled "Jim Cronin's Licenses." I hold multiple professional licenses, which I wish my clients and potential clients to be able to view to confirm my qualifications. I have been uploading a PDF document which contains all 5 of my licenses. When I click on the folder and open the document in Microsoft Word App (my only option), it only displays the first page/first license.

All this time I'm assuming that my clients/potential clients can see the full five pages of licenses etc. All this time, my clients/potential clients are assuming that I only have a single license.

This is a major problem.
