Windows Live Mail FAQ

I can’t access my new Outlook account.

11. November 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: Microsoft account, new outlook account, Paypal
Three days ago I created a new email address so I could use it for Paypal.
I tried signing in today with the new address to be told that the Microsoft account doesn't exist. I had a look on a forum online and I believe that this may answer why I can no longer access the account:

'Please be informed that free Windows Live Hotmail accounts become inactive if you don't sign in for more than 270 days or within the first 10 days after signing up for an account.
After an account becomes inactive, all messages, folders, and contacts are deleted.
Incoming messages will be sent back to the sender as undeliverable. '

I believe that as I didn't sign into the account until three days after creating it, that it may have been deleted. I would really like to know if there is any way of making the account available again as I have already set a new Paypal account up with it and it would be a lot of hassle to change it over to a new email.

Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated!

Can not access my organisational email account

Everytime I attempt to access my outlook account it appears with an error message. The most recent was the following.

We're having trouble signing you in
You're currently signed in with a Microsoft account as xxx, but that account can't be used with Outlook Web App. Please sign out of your Microsoft account, then sign in to Outlook Web App with the account you use to read your organization's email. Click here to sign out. Learn more

I was signed in to my account with a office 365 account previously, but since I have left the university I do not have access through my organisational sign in page. Noted that a restructuring is taking place.

Does it mean that my outlook account, which was maintained by my university will be accessible after this so called construction is done?. This may sound like a very simple question nobody bothers to ask, but it will be very helpful if you could answer this considering my low technical knowledge on issues like this.

I have been using an .edu email account for quite a while, unfortunately ever since the migration to outlook.com I can no longer login and get the following errors.

You're currently signed in with a Microsoft account as *** Email address is removed for privacy ***, but that account can't be used with Outlook Web App. Please sign out of your Microsoft account, then sign in to Outlook Web App with the account you use to read your organization's email. What can I do to properly migrate or recover the email?

My Hotmail account has been hacked

Hi

Someone has hacked into my Hotmail account and changed the password, contact mobile number and secondary email adress. I'm getting the error message:

That password is incorrect. Be sure you're using the password for your Microsoft account.

I've then tried to go through the reset procedure which won't work because his details are now there for the mobile number and secondary email address, not mine.

I then hit the link 'Can't Use Those' that takes you to the Validation Form and filled it out but I then had a reply back saying it would be ignored because Two Step Validation had been turned on. I did not set up Two Step Verification, the hacker has done it now his contact details are in there.

I then got onto Live Chat help who after explaining everything I'd tried and the situation, said it had to be elevated to Level 2 and directed me to another form where I put in loads of detail of everything I had tried and the full transcript of the Live Chat. He was very reassuring and said this would be resolved"100%" his words.

I then got another response from that Escalation Form saying that there was still nothing that could be done and to refer to the first response and to basically stop causing confusion! Obviously not what I was expecting after the what the guy on Live Chat had said.

I've been back on to Live Chat help this morning because I started to help my wife set up her Two Step Verification and as part of the process it says:

WARNING

Your alternate contact info helps keep your account secure, so if it's no longer current, you need to update it. You can provide new contact info and mark out-of-date email addresses or phone numbers to be deleted. Important Please note that we don't fully delete any of your old info for 30 days, and you won't be able to sign in to your Microsoft account with the new info you add until the 30 days have passed. We're sorry for any inconvenience, but this waiting period helps to deter hackers from updating your security info and gaining access to your account without your knowledge.

So I'm hoping that my details are all still there and the account can be recovered from the hacker?

This all started on Thursday and I was able to see the hackers email and mobile number that he'd replaced with mine:

email: *** Email address is removed for privacy ***

mobile: +44 7553646098

The person on live chat this morning has advised me to complete another Escalation form here:

click me -- Microsoft account – Trouble signing-in

And to also post the problem here as the Senior Microsoft Moderators will help.

I'm hoping my details are all still there because of the 30 days and how can I go about validating that I am the real owner of the account.

Please help!!!

Thanks

Un-linking child accounts…?

09. November 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: extra security, Microsoft account
So when I made my Microsoft account I linked it to what was my main account, as a child account. I figured hey, extra security.
Unfortunately for me the 'child' account is now my primary account, but as the terms of service have recently updated it cannot do anything without permission from the adult account... which I have forgotten both the password and login of.

Is there any way for me to un-link the account?
