Where on earth has my account gone

11. September 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: account details, microsoft, Microsoft account

I've been pointed here by one of the agents from a Microsoft customer service live chat but after a quick browse of the forum this doesn't seem like the place to raise user specific queries with account details etc. Not sure how he thinks I will be able to get the right help here without disclosing my relevant email address etc but here's the problem:

When trying to sign in to my old account I get a message saying "That Microsoft account doesn't exist"; this is strange as I know this account definitely does (or should) exist; I checked I'd entered my details correctly numerous (read: at least 10-15) times, I have e-mails between both the inaccessible account and my latest account and this (inaccessible) account is also actually the one set up as a backup e-mail address for my latest account (as well as providing the login details for a few of my other online accounts). The fact I can no longer access it is extremely worrying as you can probably imagine. Any ideas what on earth is going on please? Do Microsoft now delete accounts when they are inactive even if they are still being used indirectly for login details, backups etc? Surely not.

If this is the case though - what is Microsoft's policy on recovering the old account? How do I get it back? I'd be grateful for anyone who has any insight to share their thoughts.

Using Microsoft Email Account

I just created a Microsoft account, and have some questions regarding the email.

Is the email @outlook.com a free email service?

Is it accessible like aol email? I currently use aol, but only for email and would like to get rid of it. Can I use an outlook email address the same way?

If so, how do I create an email account with Microsoft?

thanks!!!

Signing in with alias – That Microsoft account doesn’t exist. Enter a different email address or get a new account.

I get the error message "That Microsoft account doesn't exist. Enter a different email address or get a new account." when I try to login with an alias. I see many threads suggesting that it is not possible to login with an alias. But it is mentioned that "You can sign in to your account with any alias—they all use the same password. " in http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/outlook/add-alias-account . Shouldn't I be able to sign-in with my alias?

Why do I have to verify my outlook.com account when currently logged in with my Microsoft account?

Sending live.com/hotmail account e-mails with outlook client on my Win 8 pc, and on my Windows Phone 8 is a mess. Almost every time I try to send or reply to an e-mail I get an e-mail from the outlook.com team saying that I must log on to my outlook.com account to verify it. Why is that necessary!? I'm already logged in to my devices using my microsoft account! And why does it have to happen almost every time? I only send like 5-10 messages per week so I guess that wont raise a spam warning in outlook.com... Very annoying...

Also, when I click the link in the e-mail from outlook.com team and sucessfully logon adn verify, the e-mail that I try to send always get stuck in the Outbox, So after a while automatic error e-mails are sent to me saying that the message is moved to Drafts folder. So I try to open it there and send it again. Doesnt work. Especially on WP8.  Its not that the messages have big attachments (just text) or anything. Eventually it ends up in Drafts again.

But this is just at side effect from the unecessary verify procedure - and that is really what I would like to know.

Old e-mail address does not exist.

I'm unable to access or reset the password to a Microsoft Account.  The account was created well over a week ago.

On a password reset, I receive the error "The Microsoft account is incorrect. Please try again"

On an account validation, I'm told the account doesn't exist.

When I try to create a new account using the same email address, I'm told the account is in use.

Any help would be much appreciated.

James

Hi Guys,

I recently installed Windows 8 and got a little confused with the whole account thing and accidently closed my Microsoft account which I have been using ever since I bought my first Xbox.

I literally closed it an hour ago, tried to create a new account but claims my email address in in use even though at log in it says it doesn't exist

Anny help would be really appreciated

Thanks

Rich
