scam verify microsoft account?

19. September 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: Gmail Account, Microsoft account, Microsoft Account Team
I have now received 6 e-mails in 24 hours from the Microsoft account team thanking me for verifying my account, giving me a pin code and recommending me to go to account.live.com and change the password if I did not request the code. I have seen several on-line discussions about this some saying it is a scam. Most end up going to private communication. I think it is a scam. Is it and what is the solution? I have summarised briefly what I did below.

1. When I saw the 2 messages first thing in the morning I panicked and I went to the account.live.com link.
2. Having changed the password I got worried as I saw that the hotmail account name was not exactly mine - an underscore added but difficult to see as all text was underlined. So within 2 or 3 minutes of changing my Outlook password I went directly into my Outlook account, my gmail account and my skype account and changed all 3 passwords.
3. 2 hours later I got exactly the same type of e-mail from the Microsoft account team but now with my correct outlook address. Seemed to confirm my worst fears - it looked like a hacker had picked up info from me using the link to account.live.com - but thankfully I had changed the passwords again directly through my accounts.
4. Later last night I got 3 more e-mails from the Microsoft account team all at the same time. These reverted back to the incorrect hotmail name used at the start.. I am ignoring them for now.

I may be somewhat paranoid but none of the above looks like the normal behaviour of a professional Microsoft team or system.

I have run AVG and Msoft safety scanner - no problems found. I have tried using the Msoft Security Support Centre and the Get Support sites - these can both be accessed but both of them do not work. So now I am trying the forum. Please can someone help.

Thanks AJD.

“That Microsoft account doesn’t exist. Enter a different email address or get a new account.”

I have had the same hotmail account for years and have been active on it daily.  However, today I tried over and over to log in and just continued to get the following message: "That Microsoft account doesn't exist. Enter a different email address or get a new account."

I REALLY need to get back into that account, and I'll even upgrade to the paid version if needed, but i want to know what's causing this and how to get it back ASAP.

The email address is {removed}[at]hotmail.com

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

I no longer have access to my Microsoft account that is linked to my Xbox Live Gamertag.

My current Xbox LIVE gamertag is currently linked to a microsoft account that I am no longer able to access. I've made this Xbox account solely to post this question. The e-mail that I can't access anymore is ********** Email address is removed for privacy *** Microsoft blocked it because they thought somebody hacked it and it remains blocked to this day, even after filling in recovery forms which I know for a fact contained 100% correct information, including things like my postcode, age, name, date of birth, pre-paid code cards etc. All I ask is that the e-mail that is assigned to my Xbox LIVE profile ********** Email address is removed for privacy *** be changed to ********** Email address is removed for privacy *** if it is possible to do so. Thanks for taking the time to read this post :)

I can’t verify my Microsoft account :( HELP!

Hi,

When i sign in it asks me to verify my account, the problem is that I don't have access to my alternate e-mail.
and I tried the second option which I have to fill a form, but since my e-mail is so old I've forgotten most of the information.

This account is so important to me, plus my Xbox Live is currently blocked until I verify my Microsoft account.
Please help, and thank you for your time.

Deleted account’s shared calendar is still showing in my primary account

19. September 2013 · Write a comment · Categories: Hotmail, Outlook.com · Tags: Microsoft account, secondary account
I used to have a secondary Microsoft account that I created for the sole purpose of sharing a calendar with others.

The calendar was shared with my primary Microsoft account, which is a co-Owner of the calendar.

The secondary account fell into disuse and was apparently deleted after a period of inactivity, which is fine, it was no longer needed.

The problem I have is that the secondary account's shared calendar still shows up in my primary account and pops up in my Outlook, in the web based calendar and on my phone.

I wanted to get rid of it and when I tried to log on using the secondary account to unshare the calendar and close the account, I found out that the account had already been deleted.

Now I do not know how to unshare or otherwise get rid of this calendar, I do not want it to show up in my primary account anymore.

I would appreciate any help with this.

Matt

Hi,

You have changed your primary alias from *** Email address is removed for privacy *** to *** Email address is removed for privacy ***.

If this is correct, you don't need to do anything.

If this is incorrect, please follow these steps:
1. Reset your password by going to https://account.live.com/
2. Change your primary alias by going to https://account.live.com/

Thanks,
The Microsoft account team

Can I restore a dosed (by my own action) Microsoft Account?

Hello. I was unsure if this is at all the right place to post this but I saw several similiar (but not quite the same) questions in the search results in this category so here we go.

My problem is as follows. I, by mistake, closed my Microsoft account. It had an XBOX Live account linked to it, which had a game that I bought on steam. I wanted a different gamertag for that after I used the one available free rename so I, and here's where it gets stupid, decided that I should delete/close both those accounts and just make a new one. I did exactly that, in that order, and then found out that my XBOX Live account, which was linked to the successfully deleted Microsoft Account, still exists, still has the game, and the product key that steam gives me can no longer be used, meaning I locked myself out of accessing that game. I can't seem to somehow link a new Microsoft account to that XBOX Live one, and I can't access the XBOX Live one on it's own, it's always accessed by inputting my email, which is the Microsoft account (although I used an external email from gmail.com which I still have, obviously). If I input that in the game when it asks me to, it just says the account doesn't exist, as does account.live.com, where, I believe, I closed it in the first place.

So essentially I'm hoping that someone can do something to allow me access to that XBOX Live account and subsequently the one game that's registered on it. I believe I should be able to provide some proof of ownership. I asked this on the xbox live board as well (still waiting for answers from there), and I also contacted phone support several days ago, but they said they'd send a request about that to somebody else (after getting some info from me, like the product key, and verifying my email (on gmail) which was used for that closed Microsoft account, both of which gave me hope) and get back to me via phone or email, but there's been no answer for two days and I suspect there won't be in the future. However, if it helps, after our short discussion the lady I talked to from the phone support came to the conclusion that the way to do it would be to somehow restore the closed Microsoft account. I read somewhere that the email adress frees up after 30 days pass since the account is closed, but I am pretty certain that I won't get access to the same XBOX Live account just by registering the same email. This seems like a sure way for people to get all sorts of things they don't own from other people's old accounts.

Unable to close hotmail account

I am trying to close my Hotmail account.  When I go to Account settings, close account, type in my password, it says "You need to deactivate your Hotmail account. Once you've done that, your Microsoft account will be closed automatically after a period of inactivity".  When I click the deactivate link, it then tells me "To close your Outlook account, you must first cancel your billing service. Go to Microsoft Account and Billing Services at https://billing.microsoft.com."  There is no option on this page to cancel billing and when I click the Help link it keeps taking me to Xbox help.  Please assist me with closing my hotmail account, thanks

Thank you. I am fully aware that the case had been escalated. I am still waiting for the result of that escalation. I find it obnoxious that a thread is locked while an escalatiom was pending. So that you know, we have resolved this on our own by contacting the appropriate people at Microsoft.
